Letter to the Editor: Compassion And Generosity Greatly Appreciated

Alison Pannell, Chair
Rotary Purple Pinkie Day

The recent painting of Purple Pinkies to promote participation in Polio prevention was a wonderful success with all our school students joining in the fun. The Rotary Club of Los Alamos would like to extend a grateful thank you to the Los Alamos community, LAPS and local businesses that supported our recent initiative to increase awareness about Polio.

We would especially like to thank Gene Schmidt, Superintendent of LAPS, who welcomed our idea and encouraged all his Principals to support us. In turn, the Principals

Letter to the Editor: Vote For A Progressive, Aggressive Council

By GEORGE R. JENNINGS Jr.
Los Alamos

Yes, I went to the League of Women Voters forum for the eight County Council candidates.

And yes I asked a question: “When elected what will be your top one or two initiatives to make Los Alamos more than a one-company town?”

And no candidate had a good answer, although Redondo alluded to a “needs further consideration”. Two of the democratic candidates – IZRAELEVITZ and O’LEARY – agreed to misinterpret the question as total Laboratory closure, and basically dodged the possibility of funding reductions and said “that never has and Read More

Letter to the Editor: Partisan Attack Misdirected

Robert Gibson, Chair
Republican Party of Los Alamos

The recent letter by a prominent local Democrat (“Sign Laws are for Everyone,” Los Alamos Daily Post, Saturday, Nov. 1) exemplifies several facets of today’s political climate that turns so many people off. The letter asserts that “Republicans” were campaigning illegally near the High School late last Tuesday afternoon and had done so previously. It also asserts citations were issued. The letter then blasts Republicans several times.

At least the letter writer recognized that likely “the Republican Party knew nothing Read More

Letter to the Editor: Witnessing Candidate Susan O’Leary’s Integrity

By MARVEL HARRISON
Los Alamos

It is a pleasure to be a member of a community that engages enthusiastically during elections and to have a resource like the Los Alamos Daily Post to share ideas, challenge others and offer a forum for people to have a voice without a price tag.

Over the past six weeks our family has received dozens of opulent mailings filled with obviously foolish and deceitful attacks on our local candidates. I believe my neighbors, friends and community members can see through the expensive political attacks sent by out of state PACS; we will think for ourselves and

Letter to the Editor: From My Family To Yours

From My Family To Yours
By STEPHANIE WINGO

Some people know Paul Martinez as a role model for Los Alamos youth while others know Paul Martinez as an active member of the community, in part due to the many board positions in which he has served. Some have known him as a coach, neighbor, home builder or mentor. I know him and am proud to call him my dad!

I am filled with pride, as a daughter, to hear people express gratitude for his being a guiding influence for them when they were younger. I couldn’t be any more fortunate to have such an honorable and caring person to be my father and grandfather to my children

Letter to the Editor: Vote To Retain Judge Sheri Rafaelson

By BETTY ANN GUNTHER
Los Alamos

I sympathize with the Ragsdales anger at robbery of their home by John Craven, the son of a trusted neighbor as expressed in their various letters to editors, but I do not agree with their opinion that Judge Sheri Rafaelson should not be retained because she released him.

Rafaelson sentenced the young man not to incarceration, but to a drug treatment program and electronic monitoring. As the Los Alamos Monitor reports, on Oct. 11, 2014, Rafaelson ruled that “Craven will spend at least a year of his probation on electronic monitoring, or until authorities deem Read More

Letter to the Editor: Halloween Theft

By JOSH CARMICHAEL
Los Alamos

On Halloween evening in Los Alamos, a group of teenage kids in a 90s-era, Nissan extra-cab pickup stole about $40 worth of pumpkins from our front porch.

Our light was on in order to welcome the trick-or-treaters that were making their rounds in our neighborhood. I noticed noise outside, resulting from the theft, and ran out our door too late to catch these kids on foot, but I did watch them drive away at a dangerously high speed along a residential street, where small children were walking. One child was almost hit by their truck.

There are several reasons to be angry with
