Scam Alert: Los Alamos Police Warn Citizens Of Phone Scammer Claiming To Be From Local Sheriff’s Office

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) is warning the public of a scam underway in which citizens are called by someone claiming to be from the Los Alamos Sheriff’s Office.

The caller is telling citizens they have a warrant out for their arrest for missing their court date and that they must pay fines to avoid jail time.

New Mexico Memorial Honors Seven Fallen Police Officers

SANTA FE — Tuesday, seven fallen New Mexico law enforcement officers were honored when their names were unveiled on a black marble memorial wall at the New Mexico Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Law Enforcement Memorial. The wall bares the names of 217 New Mexico law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.

The visually stunning ceremony included a 21-gun salute, law enforcement helicopter flyover, flag folding ceremony and an emotional flag presentation.

Family Donates Lovely Mate For Lonely Ed The Goose

Los Alamos County Animal Control was contacted by Robert Cantu who stated that his goose “Gwen” lost her mate a month ago and has been very depressed since.

“He had a goose, and we had a gander and now Ed has a mate,” LAPD Cmdr. Preston Ballew said. “We introduced Gwen and Ed, and they spent some time together before they were released back into Ashley Pond. There may still be some pecks here or there, but Dr. Ramsey assured that they will eventually bond and establish their own place at the pond.”

NMSP: DWI Checkpoint Crash Injures Three In Thoreau

THOREAU, N.M. — The New Mexico State Police (NMSP) investigated a crash at around 6:40 p.m. May 19 at a DWI Checkpoint at the intersection of N.M. 371 and N.M. 122 in Thoreau.

The initial investigation indicated that a 2019 Mitsubishi SUV driven by Joshua Floehr, 35, of Bloomfield, was traveling Westbound on N.M. 122 approaching the DWI Checkpoint. Floehr drove through the checkpoint at a high rate of speed, striking a NMSP officers’ unit and pushing it into another officer’s unit before coming to a rest.

NMSP: Fatal Crash Claims Woman In Bernalillo County

ALBUQUERQUE — The New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash involving 2 passenger vehicles and a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) on Interstate 40 near mile marker 160 in Albuquerque at around 2 p.m., May 21.

The initial investigation indicated that a 2019 Toyota passenger vehicle was traveling west on Interstate 40. Due to inclement weather, the Toyota began to slide and sideswiped a 2008 Ford passenger vehicle driven by Flora Garcia, 64, of Farmington.

NMSP: Fatal Crash North Of Aztec In San Juan County

NMSP News:

AZTEC – On May 17, 2023, at around 7:30 p.m., the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) investigated a fatal crash involving a single vehicle on US 550, north of Aztec.

The initial investigation indicated that a 1998 Jeep SUV, driven by Salina Levi, 29, of Aztec, was traveling southbound on US 550, approaching a left-hand curve. For reasons still under investigation, Levi failed to negotiate the curve and left the roadway, striking a tree and rolled over.

She sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Office of the Medical Examiner.

Suspected Fentanyl Overdose Claims Life Of Local Teen

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) responded to a White Rock residence early this morning to an unconscious 17-year-old-male.

The officers responded and initiated an unattended death investigation. The deceased male is identified as Miles Weaver.

The Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI) also responded to the scene. There is evidence to suggest the death was an overdose and Fentanyl is suspected. FBI: Navajo Man Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter

FBI News:

ALBUQUERQUE — Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, announced that Sheldon Carlton Daye was charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Daye, 29, of Vanderwagen, and an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, will remain on conditions of release pending trial, which has not been scheduled.
