Eric Sanchez Bound Over To District Court

An Albuquerque man who allegedly attempted to cash an altered check belonging to an elderly White Rock woman was bound over Friday to District Court following a preliminary hearing before Los Alamos Magistrate Court Judge Pat Casados.

Eric Sanchez, 29, is charged with forgery and having an open container in his vehicle.

Sanchez was arrested May 15 at Los Alamos National Bank in White Rock after he attempted to cash a forged check for $2,250 with the drive through teller, which appears to have been made out to Doctors Without Read More

Two men and a woman were arrested Aug. 27 in yet another shoplifting incident at Smith’s Marketplace. Robert W. Abeyta, 32, of Ohkay Owingeh, Meadows Tafoya-Romero, 24, of Espanola, and Juanadolfo Gomez, 29, of San Juan Pueblo, all appeared before Los Alamos Magistrate Judge Pat Casados Aug. 28 and are slated for hearings Sept. 22.

Charge Against Andrea Rivera Dismissed

A charge of unlawful taking of a motor vehicle against Andrea R. Rivera of Los Alamos was dismissed without prejudice Sept. 1 in Los Alamos Magistrate Court.

Rivera was charged with the crime April 21 when she was allegedly a passenger in a vehicle being driven by another woman who did not have permission to drive it. Later the driver alleged Rivera was driving the vehicle and she didn’t know where it was.

Rivera had been slated for a preliminary hearing Sept. 1, however Deputy District Attorney Kent Wahlquist dismissed the charge. Read More

State Police Investigating Taos Police Department Officer-Involved Shooting

TAOS, NM  The New Mexico State Police is investigating a shooting by a Taos Police Department officer. The shooting occurred Aug. 28 around 2:30 p.m. at the Fred Baca Park located at the intersection of Camino Del Medio and Fred Baca Park Road in Taos. 
 
Taos Police Department (TPD) had been called to the park to assist officers with the New Mexico Adult Probation and Parole Office (APPO). APPO officers had recognized inside a vehicle (a teal Saturn passenger car) at the park an absconder who had a felony warrant for his arrest.

FBI: Navajo Man From Bloomfield Sentenced To Prison For Involuntary Manslaughter Conviction

ALBUQUERQUE  Thomas J. Yazzie, Jr., 52, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation from Bloomfield, was sentenced Aug. 29 in Federal Court in Albuquerque, to 30 months in prison followed by two years of supervised release for his conviction on an involuntary manslaughter charge.
 
Yazzie was arrested Feb. 7, 2017, on an indictment charging him with involuntary manslaughter. According to the indictment, Yazzie killed a man while driving under the influence of alcohol on the Navajo Indian Reservation in San Juan County, May 10, 2016.

LAPD Launches Community Survey Friday

LAPD News:
 
Beginning Friday, Sept. 1, in an effort to better serve and partner with the community, the Los Alamos Police Department will roll out a Community Survey.
 
This survey can be taken anytime an individual interacts with any member of the Los Alamos Police Department. The survey responses are completely anonymous.
 
The survey will acquire feedback in the following areas:
  • Community Involvement;
  • Safety;
  • Procedural Justice;
  • Performance;
  • Contact; and
  • Satisfaction.
 
There also is a voluntary portion for demographics. This survey will take about 10 minutes

The Los Alamos Police Department has ramped up its uniformed and plain clothes police presence in the vicinity of Smith’s Marketplace following two unrelated incidents in the past week.

Cmdr. Preston Ballew said Wednesday that the community will notice additional police presence during both day and evening hours.

FBI: Albuquerque Bank Robber Gets 57 Months

ALBUQUERQUE  Christopher Gallegos, 33, of Albuquerque, was sentenced Aug. 29 in Federal Court to 57 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for his conviction on an armed bank robbery charge.
 
Christopher Gallegos was arrested in March 2016, on a criminal complaint charging him and four co-defendants, Greg Miera, 51, Martin Huertta, 43, Christian Herrera, 21, and Isaiah Gallegos, 22, all of Albuquerque, with robbing the US Bank branch located at 5620 Wyoming Blvd. NE in Albuquerque, March 30, 2016.
