Los Alamos is a great community. To be able to serve as a police officer or firefighter in Los Alamos, for me, is very rewarding. 

This past Saturday, my wife and I attended the annual appreciation dinner held in honor of the Los Alamos Police and Fire Departments. This event is hosted by members of the community every year as a way to show support and appreciation toward public servants.

The investigations unit of the Los Alamos Police Department is investigating a burglary that occurred Nov. 17 at the Smart House at 1925 Trinity Dr.

A suspect seen on several videos breaking into the Smart House is described as a white male in his late 20’s to mid 30s, 5’10″-6’0″ tall, with a medium build and weighing about 180-200 pounds.

Following this afternoon’s announcement that Los Alamos County and Los Alamos Police Det. Brian Schamber had reached a settlement agreement, comments were issued from Schamber’s attorney and an attorney representing three additional police officers with pending litigation against the County.

Los Alamos County Settles Detective Suit at $600,000

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County and Los Alamos Police Department employee (Det.) Brian Schamber reached a settlement agreement Dec. 10.

Schamber had been evaluated by the New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute in Las Vegas, N.M. in December 2012 before being released and cleared for active duty as a police officer by a psychiatrist. Following his release, Schamber had continued to be employed by the County but working from home after stating that, because he had been evaluated at a mental health institution, he was now prohibited by federal law from carrying a firearm.

Iowa Radio Station Reports Identity of Los Alamos Plane Crash Victims

Burrs and the pilot, Mike Fjetland of Harmony, Minn., left the Algona Airport in Iowa last week on a vacation.

Fjetland also died in the crash, according to news reports.

National Transportation Safety Board investigators are on scene today looking for evidence.
