Breaking News: Los Alamos Police Chief Wayne Torpy Announces His Retirement

Los Alamos Police Chief Wayne Torpy announced his retirement today.

“My doctors tell me I’m not going to fully recover from my stroke so I’ve decided it’s time for me to retire,” Torpy told the Los Alamos Daily Post moments ago. “My effective retirement date will be sometime in early fall to allow the County time to conduct a search for a new police chief.”

Chief Torpy suffered a stroke several months ago and underwent open heart surgery a few weeks ago. Read More

Body Found In Local Apartment Sent for Autopsy

In the afternoon of Tuesday June 4, Los Alamos Police, OMI Deputy Carlos Gonzales and personnel from DeVargas Funeral Home carry a body from the Los Cerros Apartment Complex, 3000 Trinity Dr., near downtown Los Alamos to an awaiting vehicle. Attorney John W. Day of Egolf + Ferlic + Day, LLC has issued a response to a story that broke Friday in the Los Alamos Daily Post.
 
Day is representing Los Alamos Police Det. Brian Schamber in a $25 million demand against Los Alamos County.
 
This morning, Day addressed the legal action filed May 17 against his client in United States District Court by attorney’s for the Los Alamos County Council. That complaint requests that Schamber return to work as a police officer at the Los Alamos Police Department.

May 23 at 9:26 a.m. / Los Alamos Public Schools reported that someone sprayed graffiti at Los Alamos High School, 1300 Diamond Dr. The estimated loss is less than $1,000.

May 23 at 10 a.m. / Los Alamos Police charged a 16-year-old Los Alamos boy with spraying graffiti at Los Alamos High School. He was referred to the juvenile probation officer.
