New Mexico State Police Ofc. Joe Sierra Prevents Overdose

NMSP News:

SANTA CLARA — At approximately 2:30 a.m., Jan. 16, 2024, New Mexico State Police Ofc. Joe Sierra was dispatched to an address on Fort Bayard Street in Santa Clara in reference to an apparent drug overdose.

Once on scene, Ofc. Sierra immediately recognized a male subject on the ground who was unresponsive but with a pulse. Ofc. Sierra rolled the male on his side and administered one dose of Naloxone (Narcan). The male remained unconscious and a second dose of Narcan was given.

ALBUQUERQUE — Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, announced that Lucinda Ann Yuzos was sentenced to 41 months in prison.

Yuzos, 49, of Mescalero, and an enrolled member of the Mescalero Apache Tribe, pled guilty in federal court April 25, 2023, to assault of an intimate partner resulting is substantial bodily injury.

GRANT COUNTY — Jan. 11, the New Mexico State Police Crime Suppression Bureau teamed up with District 12 Uniformed State Police officers to conduct a warrant operation focusing on those with felony warrants who have a violent criminal history, violent current warrant charges, and a history of resisting law enforcement.

NMSP: 14-Year-Old Boy Shoots 6-Year-Old Child In Hurley

HURLEY, N.M. – On Jan. 12, the Hurley Police Department requested the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Investigations Bureau to investigate a shooting involving a 6-year-old child.

NMSP agents learned that Hurley police officers responded to the 200 block of D Street for reports that a 6-year-old child had been shot. When officers arrived, they saw a 14-year-old juvenile running from the scene. Officers detained the juvenile, who had a dismantled handgun and ammunition in his pockets.

Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, John Morales, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) El Paso Field Office, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office, announced that Ricardo Arce, III was sentenced to 90 months in prison.

Arce, 44, of Chaparral, N.M., pled guilty in federal court Sept. 22, 2021, to conspiracy to take a hostage and two counts of hostage taking.

GUADALUPE COUNTY — Just before 10 a.m. Jan. 8, the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) responded to a fatal crash on Interstate 40 around milepost 291, east of Santa Rosa.

The initial investigation indicated that a semi-tractor trailer driven by a 21-year-old from Indianapolis, Ind., was traveling west on Interstate 40 when, for reasons still under investigation, it rear-ended a passenger van driven by David James McGarrah, 71, of Neosho, Mo., and occupied by his 70-year-old passenger.

New Mexico State Police Crime Suppression Bureau Garners Arrests And Weapon And Drug Seizures Across State

The New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Crime Suppression Bureau (CSB) continues to combat major crime problems around the state.

The Bureau has units focusing on interdicting drug shipments, dismantling drug trafficking organizations, apprehending outstanding fugitives, and arresting auto theft offenders.

In addition, multiple agents within CSB are part of multi-agency task forces with federal and local partners.

On Jan. 9, 2024, the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Investigations Bureau was contacted by the Española Police Department (EPD) to investigate an officer-involved shooting.

State Police agents learned that at around 8 p.m., an EPD officer stopped a vehicle on Railroad Avenue for a traffic violation.
