Los Alamos County Community Service Department Seeks Feedback For Several Identified Amenities

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Community Service Department (CSD) is seeking feedback for several identified amenities within Los Alamos, Canyon Road Tennis Courts, Canyon Road handball wall, Nina Marsh Tennis Courts, Orange Street playlot and Loma Linda Playground.

CSD is looking at the use of these facilities to determine if they are the best use for the community.

In an effort to gather input, posters have been set-up at these locations providing a brief description and QR code to take the survey.

David Kunsberg was the top predictor in the Atomic City Road Runner’s (ACRR) weekly pace race held on the Canada Bonito Trail up by the ski hill at 9 seconds off his predicted time.

Update On Los Alamos County Leisure Lagoon Schedule

Since Aug. 5, the Los Alamos County Leisure Lagoon has been under construction to install tench drains into the floor, which required cutting and removing of concrete.

While the project has gone relatively smoothly, as with any construction project there have been some delays. In order to provide the public with properly repaired and cleaned space, the re-opening of the Leisure Lagoon is delayed until Oct. 16, 2023.  

LAC would like to remind everyone that the main pool and therapy pool are open during the week and are now open 9-11:30 a.m. Saturdays.

Once again, firefighters have protected New Mexican lives and property from a recent wildfire. The El Valle Fire was first detected Sept. 8 and led to the evacuation of the communities of El Valle and Las Trampas. Firefighters were able to reach some containment over the weekend and the evacuation notice was lifted.

Residents of El Valle and Las Trampas were allowed to return to their homes. Both communities remain in the “Set” status and remain on alert that they may have to evacuate again on a moment’s notice.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) and Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and U.S. Rep. TAOS — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Taos Field Office announces the appointment of a first ever park ranger for recreation services on public lands in Santa Fe County.

Ryan Ashcraft now actively patrols the La Cieneguilla, Camel Tracks, Buckman, San Pedro, Sombrillo/Nambe and Ojo Caliente areas, among others.
