Weekly Fishing Report: Nov. 9, 2025

The State Game and Fish Department stocked Nov. 5 a total of 7,160 Gila trout in the East Fork, Middle Fork and West Fork of the Gila River. The fish averaged four inches in size.

Gila trout are raised at the Federal Fish Hatchery in Mora. They are one of two species of trout native to New Mexico. The other is the Rio Grande cutthroat trout. Gila trout inhabit the Gila River drainage in Southwestern New  Mexico.

Duplicate Bridge In Los Alamos: Oct. 29, 2025

BRIDGE News:

Jenny Sprinkle played for the first time in one of our games on Nov. 3. Julie Goltz played for the first time here on November 5. John Courtright played for the the first time in a long while, also on November 5. Steve Kemic and Jennifer Young were 1st overall in the Monday game.

In flight B both days, the winners were Alan Wadlinger and Randy Baker. In the open game on Wednesday, there was a 3-way tie with Helen Butler-Joyce Goltz, Martin Cooper-Sam Borkowsky, and Jerry Morzinski-Beth Schaefer.

County Ice Rink Opening Delayed Due To Faulty Motor

COUNTY News:

Opening day for the Los Alamos County Ice Rink is delayed due to a faulty motor in the new chiller. The motor experienced an internal short circuit during performance testing conducted by Modern Mechanical Ices Systems (MMIS), the chiller designer-builder.

MMIS was onsite at the time of the incident, and although a fire was detected inside the motor frame, they were able to react quickly to prevent any damage to the chiller or the facility.

Repairs are anticipated within the week, allowing for an estimated new opening day of Nov. 28.

State Parks Reminds Veterans To Apply For Lifetime Pass

SANTA FE — In recognition of Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11, the State Parks Division reminds New Mexico resident veterans to apply for their lifetime veterans pass.   

With the signing of House Bill 161, which went into effect on July 1, the State Parks Division partnered with the New Mexico Department of Veterans Services (NMDVS) to implement this new benefit for New Mexico veterans.

Charity Chair Yoga Class Honoring Veterans Nov. 10

The Betty Ehart Senior Activity Center in Los Alamos will host a special Charity Chair Yoga Class from 2:45–3:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 10, in recognition of the service and sacrifices of U.S. Veterans. 

This community event will raise funds for the Veterans’ Yoga Project, a national nonprofit that supports veterans and their families through yoga, mindfulness, and resilience training. Donations are appreciated, but all are welcome regardless of ability to contribute.

Los Alamos County Ice Rink Opening Delayed Until Late Nov.

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Ice Rink will have a delayed opening due to mechanical issues. The new anticipated opening date is Nov. 28, 2025. We will announce a confirmed opening date as soon as more information becomes available.

In addition, late night facility operations at the rink will begin on Nov. 12, 2025.

The stocking of rainbow trout by the State Game and Fish Department has shifted its emphasis to Southern New Mexico. Lakes and ponds too warm in the summer to support trout are being stocked now because of cooler weather. 

Streamflow on the Rio Grande increased over the last week. Streamflows today were 497 cubic-feet-per-second at Taos Junction and 557at Embudo. The streamflow at Cerro near the Colorado border was 380 cubic feet per second. All of these are above normal and should be good for trout, allowing any stocked trout not yet caught Read More
