Second Sunday Forum: Figures On A Landscape – Running The Hardrock 100 Mile Endurance Run In Colorado’s San Juan Mountains

The public is invited to attend the Second Sunday Forum at the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos, starting at noon on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 1738 North Sage St.

The 30th running of the Hardrock 100 Mile Endurance Run took place  July 11-12 in the high mountains around Silverton, Colo. David Coblentz has been involved with this event for more than 20 years and has finished 13 times.

The Los Alamos County Fair & Rodeo got underway Friday and continues through Sunday. Events kicked off with the Summer Concert Friday night and this morning’s parade down Central Avenue.

The remainder of today and Sunday are filled with exhibits, the rodeo, and the Sheriff’s Cowboy Dinner & Dance this evening at the Posse Lodge.

SANTA FE — Construction season is in full swing on the Santa Fe National Forest. The Jemez Ranger District has closed some recreation sites throughout the summer to conduct pavement preservation projects.

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish (NMDG&F) has scheduled a public meeting with the Public Land User (Habitat) Stamp Citizen Advisory Committee at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5.

The Citizen Advisory Committee will prioritize project opportunities at this meeting, providing guidance on the expenditure of Habitat Stamp funds. Members of the public are invited to attend this hybrid public meeting.

Los Alamos Junior Roller Derby is kicking off its 2025 non-competitive season, inviting both new and returning skaters aged 9-18 to join the Los Alamos Cherry Bombs for a season focused on skill-building and fun.

The season officially begins Wednesday, Aug. 13, with the first practice scheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Los Alamos Ice Rink.

Aquatic Center Main Pool Open!

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County staff have been working diligently to get the main pool operational. Due to their efforts, the Aquatic Center’s main pool will reopen at 12 p.m., today, Wednesday, July 30, with normal business hours.

As scheduled, the Main Pool and Therapy Pool will be open on Saturday, Aug. 2, and the Leisure Lagoon will be closed for scheduled maintenance through Aug. 24.

Zeke Wilmot Top Predictor In ACRR’s Weekly Pace Race

Zeke Wilmot was the top predictor in the weekly pace race held on the trail opposite the Laboratory “S” site on West Jemez Road (State Route # 501).  He was 1 second off his predicted time.  Other accurate predictors were  Eliverio Acosta with a 8 second differential; Catherine Hensley at 9 seconds off as well as the first-place finisher on the 2-mile paved course at 34:54; Paul Geimer recording a 29 second difference; and Holly Walker with daughter Iris Geimer at 36 seconds off.

Aquatic Center Hours: Week Of July 28

COUNTY News:

Due to issues caused by the power outage on July 22, the Aquatic Center’s main pool will remain closed until Monday, Aug. 4, 2025. However, the Therapy Pool will open at 7 a.m., and the Leisure Lagoon at 8:00am for the week.

The Therapy Pool will be open on Saturday, Aug. 2, all day from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. The Leisure Lagoon will be closed starting Saturday, Aug. 2, for scheduled maintenance through Aug. 24.
