Annual Free YMCA Workout Thanksgiving Day

YMCA News:

It’s that time of year again; bring the relatives, friends and neighbors to the free Thanksgiving Day Workout at the Family YMCA for ages 13 and up. Doors open at 8:50 a.m. to the gymnasium.

There will be several different workout styles for all fitness levels. Be sure to hang around after the workout for some fun door prizes.

Gear Up For Sunday’s Annual Los Alamos CROP Hunger Walk & Turkey Trot

More than 100 runners and walkers will begin a symbolic circuit on North Mesa, from the middle school to the stables and back, with the motto, “We walk because they walk” at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Millions of people around the world do not have water or food resources close at hand and must walk, sometimes miles a day, to bring nourishment to their families. They walk, so we walk in solidarity with them.

The bipartisan package of bills would prioritize recreation on federal lands and reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund

Valles Caldera National Preserve Holiday Closures

JEMEZ SPRINGS – The Valles Caldera National Preserve will close the Valle Grande visitor center and main entrance Thanksgiving and Christmas days to allow employees to spend the holidays with their families. 

Visitors are welcome to access the preserve via the Coyote Call and Valle Grande trailheads.

Bandelier Pile Burning Along N.M. 4 Wednesday

With the arrival of snow providing good conditions, the fire crew at Bandelier National Monument is planning to burn about 30 piles of fuel materials Wednesday, Nov. 18. 

The piles are along N.M. 4 between Ponderosa Group Campground and the Bandelier entrance, totaling about 5 acres. Visitors may see smoke at a number of locations just off the highway, including one near the entrance station. There should be little impact on Juniper Campground, and none in the Visitor Center area. The operation is expected to only take one day. Read More

SANTA FE – Permits to cut your own Christmas tree on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) go on sale Monday, Nov. 23, at Forest Headquarters, all Ranger District offices and select third-party vendors.

YMCA ‘On Belay’ Class This Weekend Nov. 14-15

The Family YMCA will hold an On Belay Class noon to 2 p.m., Nov 14 and 15.
 
This class is open to those 14+ that are interested in learning to Top Rope Belay. The two-day class will cover proper harness use, how to tie-in, and how to use a belay device for climbers on an indoor top rope system.
 
Fee is $50 / $25 for Y members, space is limited. Participants must attend both days and pass the Top Rope Belay test in order to belay at the Y Climbing Wall. The YMCA Climbing Wall is open every day, free for Y Members or $10 for a Non-member day pass.
