Although many federal, state, and local facilities and services will be closed Thanksgiving Day, Bandelier National Monument will be open that day as well as through the weekend. 
 
The Visitor Center will be open usual hours, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and trails are open dawn to dusk. In addition, the bookstore will have a discount of 20 percent off of everything in stock, and that 20 percent can be added to membership or other existing discounts.

Christmas Trees Available Starting Friday At Valles Caldera National Preserve – Help Restore The Forest!

Los Amigos de Valles Caldera will once again be helping the Valles Caldera National Preserve to thin overgrown forested areas to protect it from further large wildfires.
 
These freshly cut trees will be available for four weekends, starting on the Friday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, at the Valle Grande Staging Area, off N.M. 4 between mile marker 39 and 40.

PEEC Provides Free Guided Hikes on Black Friday

Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is offering two guided hikes Friday, Nov. 27, to facilitate outdoor enjoyment.

Inspired by REI’s #OptOutside campaign, PEEC recruited two members of the Los Alamos Mountaineers to lead hikes, one easy and one difficult, on local trails for Black Friday. Each hike is limited to 15 participants and advance registration is encouraged.

The Los Alamos Triatomics Club announces the 2015 Christmas Lights Runs. Come find out how fun it is to run at night with a group of your peers. 

We will run through various Los Alamos neighborhoods to check out their outdoor lights. The routes are mostly on quiet residential streets to avoid the noise and smell of traffic. Non club members are welcome to run with us.

NEA-NM Applauds Game Commission Decision

The New Mexico State Game Commission approved an easement agreement between the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish and the New Mexico State Land Office for hunting access on State Trust Lands.

The easement is for next year’s hunting season, and the Game Department will pay $1 million for access. The previous easement was only $200,000, which equates to just two cents per acre.

The additional $800,000 will benefit New Mexico’s public education – which is the primary beneficiary, receiving approximately 95 percent of the money collected by the Land Read More
