Scenes From Sunday’s Jingle Bell Rock ‘N Run

The crowd takes off in Sunday’s Jingle Bell Rock ‘N Run hosted by the Los Alamos High School Band to raise money for their upcoming trip to Washington, D.C.  The fun run included a choice of 5K or 1 mile runs and is modeled after the popular Rock and Roll marathons featuring live music along the routes.  Students from LAHS and Los Alamos Middle School played holiday tunes for the runners. Fresh Christmas Trees At VCNP This Weekend

VCNP News:

Los Amigos de Valles Caldera’s Christmas Tree forest restoration project has been so successful that we need to cut more trees! Freshly cut trees of all sizes will be available at the Valle Grande Staging Area, off N.M. 4 between mile marker 39 and 40, Dec. 12-13, and Dec. 19-20. Los Amigos will be there 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

The trees will generally be White Fir. Suggested donations are between $25 and $35 – cash or check only.

Santa Fe National Forest Closes El Cajete Mine Area

SFNF News:

The Santa Fe National Forest today issued a temporary closure order for the El Cajete pumice mine in the Jemez Ranger District. 

The restricted area, a total of 87 acres, runs north along N.M. 4 between the Sierra Los Pinos subdivision and mile post 34. 

The closure will allow reclamation efforts on the site, including erosion control and revegetation, to stabilize. The order will stay in effect until Oct. 31, 2017, unless it is rescinded earlier.
