Valles Caldera Plans Prescribed Burn Thursday

VCNP News:

JEMEZ SPRINGS – The Valles Caldera National Preserve is planning to implement a prescribed burn project Thursday, Oct. 15. 

The prescribed burn will be within a 380-acre unit on the Valles Caldera National Preserve, north of N.M. 4 in the Banco Bonito area near mile marker 30. Because of the location and elevation, smoke from the burn may be visible from all directions coming into the Jemez Mountains area. The burn operations should be completed in 1-2 days and are not expected to necessitate road closures.

Fall is approaching and the time to get ready for the upcoming ski season is upon us. The annual Los Alamos Ski Swap, hosted by the Los Alamos Ski Racing Club is Saturday, Oct. 17.

There are only 150 tickets available for this annual event, which runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Walkup Aquatic Center.

The RV Park adjacent to the White Rock Visitors Center at 115 N.M. 4 is packed with vehicles for the Columbus Day Holiday.

The RV Park is open year round on a first come, first served basis as reservations are not accepted. The parking lot contains 16 RV spaces, 15 feet wide by 50 feet long, with electric hookups (30/50 amp) and a sewer dump station is available on-site.
