In Tuesday’s final Atomic City Road Runners Club Pace Race of the 2015 season, Laura Woodroffe had a 5 second differential from her predicted time and the best time for a female finisher in the 3 mile distance with a time of 20:55 on the Canyon Rim Trail.

Visit Bandelier Free During ‘Senior Skip Day’ In National Parks Oct. 8

Usually “Senior Skip Day” is a day when high school seniors play hooky. This Thursday, Oct. 8, it will be an opportunity for senior citizens 62 and over, nationwide, to visit National Park units for free.
 
By inviting senior citizens out to the National Park System, “Senior Skip Day” is being promoted by health-care company Humana, for improving the health of the communities they serve.

Santa Fe National Forest Issues Closure Order To Protect New Mexico Meadow Jumping Mouse Habitat

SANTA FE – The Santa Fe National Forest today issued a closure order for four areas on the Jemez Ranger District that have been identified as occupied habitat for the endangered New Mexico meadow jumping mouse.

The closure areas are located along the Rio Cebolla and San Antonio Creek in the Jemez Mountains. In October 2014, the Forest constructed temporary fences in marshy areas along the Rio Cebolla and San Antonio Creek to protect the mouse’s habitat. Bandelier To Raise Entrance Fees In January 2016

Starting Jan. 1, 2016, Bandelier National Monument will increase entrance fees for visitors in order to fund important maintenance and improvement projects within the park. 
 
New fees will be:
  • Vehicle pass (7 days): $20
  • Individual/bike (7 days): $10
  • Motorcycle (7 days): $15
  • Annual entry pass to Bandelier: $40

Madeleine Faubert was the top predictor in the weekly pace race held on the Lower Water Canyon Trail off N.M. 4 near White Rock. 
 
She was 32 seconds off her predicted time. 5 year old Anders Medin recorded a 39 second differential and was also the fastest 1 mile runner with a time of 12:58. 
 
Other accurate predictors were Duane Marr at 42 seconds off and Sue Elkins and Felix Candia both at a 45 second difference.
