County Issues June Update On Los Alamos Golf Course

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County staff have been monitoring the golf course and, as published, reviewed the course on June 9, to provide better clarity and to ensure optimal conditions for play. The updated schedule reflects changes in course availability and ongoing preparations.

Updated details:

  • The practice range and main putting green will remain open. These areas will be available to golfers for practice. Range balls are available 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

US Kids Golf Program – Registration Now Open

Registration for the U.S. Kids July Junior Golf Program 2025 is officially open! This exciting program, designed to help young golfers develop their skills, will run from July 7–30, offering an excellent opportunity for children aged 6 through 13 to enhance their golf techniques in a fun, interactive setting.

Program Details:

  • Mondays: July 7, 14, 21, 28
  • Tuesdays: July 8, 15, 22, 29
  • Wednesdays: July 9, 16, 23, 30

Anglers that would like to catch a Gila trout should head to Lake Roberts near Silver City. The lake was stocked June 5 with 1,031 Gila trout from the Federal Fish Hatchery near Mora. This Hatchery is devoted to the raising of Gila trout.

These were big trout. They averaged 20.1 inches in size and slightly over three pounds. They were excess brood fish used to supply eggs for the hatchery. Los Alamos County Council To Consider Ice Rink Cover Structure Options During Regular Meeting June 10

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Council will consider conceptual alternatives for a cover structure to be installed at the Los Alamos Ice Rink during its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, in Council Chambers.

Staff from the Public Works and Community Services departments will present the options and seek Council direction on how to proceed.

Since December 2024, the County project team has engaged the public through two listening sessions with the ice rink user groups, three Parks and Recreation Board meetings open to the public, and two community surveys.

Santa Fe National Forest Rescinds Stage 1 Fire Restrictions

SANTA FE — Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) leadership decided to lift Stage 1 Fire Restrictions across the forest, effective at 8 a.m. June 6.

This decision was influenced by several factors that significantly reduced fire risk in the area.
