Roxana Candia is the best predictor in Tuesday’s Atomic City Road Runners weekly Pace Race.
 
Candia was just 2 seconds off her predicted time, and Mary Snow was just 3 seconds off, both running the 3 mile course. The next best predictor was Roy Cope with a 9 second adjusted time in the 1 mile race.

Trio Take On Mount Whitney To Raise Funds For Vets

ALBUQUERQUE — A New Mexico trio including Los Alamos National Laboratory scientist Pawel Listwan and Albuquerque attorneys Matt Vance and Paul Haidle will take part in the 2015 Feat for Justice, where they complete a 72-mile trek, with 30,000 feet of elevation change in 72 hours.

The program will raise money to provide free legal help to New Mexico veterans through the New Mexico Legal Aid’s Veterans Justice Project and the State Bar of New Mexico’s Veterans Civil Legal Clinic.

Pajarito Astronomers Dark Night Star Gazing Aug. 8

PAJARITO ASTRONOMERS News:

The Pajarito Astronomers will be holding a County-Sponsored Dark Night at 8 p.m. (sunset) Saturday, Aug. 8 at Spirio Soccer Field in Overlook Park.

Weather permitting, the public is invited to come out, wander among the telescopes and star gaze. The planets Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn and its rings, Neptune and Uranus may be visible. 

There will be a tour of the summer constellations, and there will be telescope views of double stars, star clusters, nebulae and galaxies. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Viewing will end before midnight. Read More

SFNF Awards $1 Million Plus In Restoration Grants

SANTA FE – As part of its Collaborative Forest Restoration Program, the Santa Fe National Forest has awarded more than $1 million in grants to restore riparian forests and watersheds, allow for the purchase of equipment to better utilize small-diameter trees and conduct the planning analysis for future restoration work.

The grants are going to the following recipients:

  • An award in the amount of $360,000 to Ohkay Owingeh tribe to conduct riparian restoration projects within the jurisdictions of three northern New Mexico Pueblos.

$10 Million In Multi-Resort Improvements Unveiled

The largest ski area collective in the Southwest is investing $10 million in mountain improvements for the 2015/2016 ski and snowboard season, including three new quads, more trails, and additional snowmaking infrastructure.

Woodroffe Is Best Predictor In Tuesday’s Pace Race

Laura Woodroffe was the best predictor in Tuesday’s weekly Atomic City Road Runners Pace Race with a 3 second differential from her predicted time. 
 
The Lawrence E. Wangen Memorial Race was held on the trails behind the Aquatic Center and included a 1 mile paved course and 1 mile and 5K trail distances. Other top predictors included Zach Medin at 8 seconds off, Joan Williams recording a 12 second difference, and Bob Weeks at 15 seconds off his prediction.
