Los Alamos Senior Olympics Begins Today

It is not too late to register for the Los Alamos Senior Olympic Games. Registrations will be accepted at The Los Alamos Family YMCA one day in advance of each event.

The games start today. Fees, which include a t-shirt and ticket to the Celebration of Athletes luncheon, are $25. All participating local athletes qualify for the state games in their events.

Largest Storm In Decade Boosts New Mexico Ski Resorts

The largest storm in a decade blanketed the northern part of New Mexico during the past two weeks, dropping more than six feet of new snow on New Mexico’s ski resorts.

The New Mexico Tourism Department (NMTD) is hopeful that the record-setting snowfall will lead to record number spring break visitors to the state’s ski resorts.

The trip, organized by PEEC, is free to attend and open to all ages who are up for the 3-4 hour hike.

The Cerro Grande route winds its way up to the highest point in Bandelier with Cerro Grande Peak at 10,199 ft. Fifth grade students at Mountain Elementary School last Wednesday got to experience snowshoeing at Camp May. 

Led by their PE Teacher, Tony Hinojosa, the Mountain School Specials Team (Art, Music, Library, PE) all worked together to give their 5th grade students the opportunity to explore the beauty of Camp May, while learning how to utilize snowshoes and search for signs of wildlife.

Pinon Elementary Annual Fun Run March 21

Pinon Elementary School is hosting its annual fun run at 9 a.m., March 21. The St. Patrick’s-themed event supports the school’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).

The 1-mile and 5K event kicks off with runners and joggers getting warmed up with a leprechaun. Snacks and prizes will be given after participants cross the finish line.

The Los Alamos Golf Course reopended Friday and today the Golf Shop is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the first tee time is 10 a.m. and the range closes at 3:30 p.m.

Hours change Sunday when the Pro Shop will open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., the first tee time is 10 a.m., frost permitting, and driving range hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
