Bandelier Announces Activities For Early April

Bandelier National Monument has announced three special activities at the park for the early part of April, two related to the history of the historic buildings in the canyon, and one to encourage people to enjoy the park while participating in healthy activities.

Governor Signs Legislation To Create Commission To Establish New Mexico’s Rio Grande Trail

STATE News:

SANTA FE — Gov. Susana Martinez signed legislation Thursday creating a commission to bring state, local, tribal and private stakeholders together to establish the Rio Grande Trail, which would span 500 miles across the state from Colorado to Texas.

Martinez also signed legislation to ensure that the Firefighter’s Survivors Fund is sufficiently funded.

Triath-A-Toddle FUNdraiser April 18

FSN News:

The Triath-a-Toddle is a FUNdraiser for Family Strengths Network (FSN) set for 10 a.m. to noon April 18 at the Pueblo Complex.

Bring kids (ages 1-5) to the first ever Triath-a-Toddle, which includes giant bowling, a trike course, slides and much more to keep the kiddos running around all morning. There will be snacks for all participants, along with a bake sale.

In the manor of a triathlon, participants are asked to get at least $10 in sponsorship. Contact FSN if this is a hardship.

All proceeds go directly to the programs run by Family Strengths Network.

Pecos National Historical Park Comes Alive With Tension And Noise Of Civil War In The West

Pecos National Historical Park is set to come alive with the tension and noise of the Civil War in the West, complete with artillery demonstrations, music by a fife and drum corps, a look at period military medicine, and the chance to interact with costumed interpreters who demonstrate both camp and homefront life. 
 
The Pecos NHP Civil War Weekend activities are Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29. The weekend’s events will highlight the 153rd anniversary of the Civil War Battle of Glorieta Pass, referred to by some as the “Gettysburg of the West.”

The 2015 Legislature passed a bill, HB 563, creating a Rio Grande Trail Commission to study a corridor for the proposed Rio Grande Trail. The 500-mile trail would extend from the Colorado to Texas borders using existing trails and creating new ones.
