Participate in First Ever Los Alamos Pétanque Tournament Saturday

The first La Mesa Pétanque Club (LMPC) triples tournament, hosted by the La Mesa Pétanque Club, is 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the new Urban Park petanque courts in Los Alamos. This is an open event to the first eight teams (24 players).

The new courts are on the north end of the park off Urban Street. Registration is $5 per player and begins at 8:30 a.m. Extra boules will be available if needed.

Several random qualifying rounds will be played in the morning, with concours and consolante brackets in the afternoon. Read More

Registration Open for Y Golf Tournament to Support Youth Scholarships

Registration is being taken at The Family YMCA and online for the 5th Annual Ed Griggs Memorial Golf Tournament set for Saturday, June 14. The tournament is a benefit that enables 70 youth to attend Summer Camp and Afterschool Care.

Valle Caldera Hosts Fly Fishing Clinics This Weekend

This Saturday and Sunday, volunteers from New Mexico Trout will conduct separate fly fishing clinics for youths and adults the Valle Caldera Preserve. Each clinic will allow up to 20 participants the opportunity to fish the headwaters of the East Fork of the Jemez River on the Preserve.

Participants spend half the day learning about equipment, tackle, knots, stream insect sampling and identification. They will have time to practice casting in the morning and then head for the fishing hole in the afternoon.

Summer Gym Camp held at Chamisa Elementary is for students who would like to improve on their throwing, catching, passing, punting and general ball skills. Additional fun activities include, DDR, Xbox, Kinect and Speed Badminton.

There will be two sessions: June 16-19 or June 23-26

The students are separated out by the following grade levels and times:

  • 8:30-10 a.m. Grades 4-6
  • 10-11:30 a.m. Grades 1-3
