Sleep Out Under the Stars at Bandelier

Thousands of people around the nation will gather to take part in a one-night event called the Great American Backyard Campout Saturday, June 28.

Join us in your “backyard” at Bandelier National Monument from 6-11 p.m. for fun family activities. Staff will offer free food, free camping and no entrance fee for participants.

Activities include:

  • 6-7 p.m. – Did you say free food? Feast on hot dogs, chips, watermelon and lemonade provided by the Friends of Bandelier. Grab a dog and a seat at the Juniper Campground amphitheater.

Special Camp Promotion for Northern New Mexico Girls

GIRL SCOUT News:

Several upcoming camp sessions at Camp Elliott Barker in Angel Fire are being offered at a drastically reduced rate for Northern New Mexico girls. Camp sessions are available for $150 – about half the regular cost.

This promotion is available first come, first served, and while space allows. Girls do not have to be members of the Girl Scouts to participate. Campers must submit payment in full by June 27. Memberships Available at Pinon Park Pool

PINON PARK POOL News:

Pinon Park Pool has memberships available for the 2014 season. The pool, located at 104 Bryce Ave., has been a part of White Rock for more than 50 years.

Pinon Park Pool offers three types of memberships, based upon the number of swimmers. A one-person membership costs $200 and includes five guest passes. A two-person membership is $325 plus 10 guest passes, and a family membership is $450 and includes 20 guest passes. Current members who refer a new member will receive a $50 credit towards his or her 2015 assessment for each referral.

YMCA Offering Fitness Classes in White Rock

The Family YMCA is offering fitness classes at its new fitness class studio at 106-A Longview Dr. in White Rock. Yoga is offered 5:30-6:30 p.m.  Mondays and Wednesdays and PiYo Express noon to 12:35 p.m. Mondays and Fridays.

PiYo is a unique class that combines Pilates, yoga, strength conditioning, flexibility and dynamic balance with an up tempo, non-spiritual approach to mind/body exercise. You must be a YMCA member and bring your membership card to participate. There is no additional fee to attend these classes.

Splash ‘n Dash Events at Aquatics Center Start June 25

TRIATOMICS News:

Triatomics presents free Splash ‘n Dash events June 25, July 9, July 23 and Aug. 26 at the Larry Walkup Aquatic Center.

Swimmers, runners, beginning multi-sports athletes, seasoned triathletes or anyone else interested may participate in either:

  • 400 yard swim, followed by a 5K run along Canyon Drive.; or
  • 200 yard swim, followed by a 3K run along Canyon Drive.

Registration for all distances begins at 6:20 p.m. and closes at 6:55 p.m., with the first swimmer sent off at 7 p.m. sharp!

Sixteen runners and walkers participated in the Atomic City Roadrunners Pace Race under cloudy and rainy skies along Pipeline Road south of White Rock Tuesday.

Katie Gattiker was the top predictor at seven seconds off her predicted time in this week’s Atomic City Runners pace race at East Park.
 
She was followed by Ryan Smeltzer with a nine second differential. Ted Romero was 19 seconds off and was also the top three mile finisher at 21:19. Jackie Peckham had a 27 second difference.
