The Department stocked a total of 44,581 rainbow trout weighing 16,359 pounds. Most of the stocking will now be in Northern New Mexico.

It has been one of the weakest spring runoffs in memory this year. The snowpack is gone and the weather has been unseasonably warm and dry. This is reflected in streamflow measurements. Normally, the Rio Grande would be swollen with spring runoff from the melting snow. Streamflows above 1,000 cubic-feet-per-second would be common.

Community Invited To Weigh In On Green Bike Lanes

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Public Works team recently installed a couple of green bike lanes along Diamond Drive. 

The team used an epoxy resin with crushed colored glass to enhance the visibility of locations where bicyclists are expected to operate, where they might be in conflict with traffic crossing the lane.

The County wants to hear the community’s thoughts.

State Launches First-Ever Outdoor Equity Fund Grants Up To $100,000 For Large-Scale, High-Impact Youth Programs

SANTA FE — New Mexico is expanding its Outdoor Equity Fund with a new grant tier offering grants up to $100,000 to organizations delivering large-scale outdoor programs for youth statewide.

The new Tier 2 category, offered through the state’s Outdoor Recreation Division (ORD), under the Economic Development Department of New Mexico (EDNM), is designed for organizations with the capacity to deliver large-scale programming, expand outdoor access, and deepen community impact for New Mexico youth.

Piñon Park Pool Set To Open Memorial Day Weekend

Los Alamos County staff have been hard at work at Piñon Park Pool, in White Rock, and are happy to announce its opening date of Saturday, May 23, 2026!

Piñon Park Pool is open to the public, and Los Alamos County Aquatic Center pass holders can also utilize the facility.

The Piñon Pool Association previously ran Piñon Pool; however, they closed the facility in 2025 due to a lack of memberships. Los Alamos County reached out to the owner of the property, Attack Research, and secured a lease in February 2026 to operate the pool from May 2026 to October 2026.

Anderson And Hetrick Tie For Best Predictor In Weekly Pace Race Held May 12

Eric Anderson and 5-year-old Ryder Hetrick were both 6 seconds off their predicted time in the weekly pace race held in Rendija Canyon out on Barranca Mesa.  Other accurate predictors were 5-year-old June Rue with a 15 second difference; Adrienne Hetrick recording 18 seconds off; Lukas Zavora with a 21 second differential; and Eugenya Simakov at 23 seconds off as well as the first-place female on the 2-mile course at 28:15.
