Free Admission To National Parks On Memorial Day

In honor of Memorial Day, all National Park Service sites that charge an entrance fee, including Valles Caldera National Preserve (VCNP), will offer free admission to U.S. citizens and residents on Monday, May 25.
Mark your calendar for these additional fee-free dates in 2026:
- June 14: Flag Day
- July 3-5: Independence Day weekend
- Aug. 25: 110th Birthday of the National Park Service
- Sept. 17: Constitution Day
- Oct. 27: Theodore Roosevelt’s birthday
- Nov. 11: Veterans Day
Santa Fe National Forest Offices To Close On Memorial Day

SANTA FE — All Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) District Offices and the Supervisor’s Office in Santa Fe will be closed Monday, May 25, on in observance of Memorial Day. All offices will resume regular business hours Tuesday, May 26.
Memorial Day is a federal holiday that honors all U.S. military personnel who lost their lives while serving in the armed forces, both in times of war and peace.
The long weekend is also the unofficial kick-off of summer and a time to enjoy the forest with your family and friends.

SANTA FE — As New Mexicans head outdoors to enjoy warmer weather, the Office of the Superintendent of Insurance (OSI) is reminding residents to stay mindful of how small actions can make a big difference in preventing devastating fires.
OSI is reminding New Mexico residents to stay vigilant of outdoor activities that can unintentionally spark wildfire if proper precautions are not taken.
As residents are getting outside and having fun this spring and summer, follow these tips and tricks every day to help mitigate the start of wildfires:

Piñon Splash Pad Opening Tomorrow For 2026 Season

Los Alamos County Parks and Open Space Division has announced the Piñon Splash Pad at 10 Sherwood Blvd. in White Rock will open for the season at 10 a.m., Friday, May 22.
The Splash Pad is operational 10 a.m.–7 p.m., seven days a week, and is scheduled to be open through Labor Day weekend, Sept. 1, 2026.
Adult supervision is recommended for the Splash Pad area, as this is an unsupervised facility. Athletic or similar equipment is not allowed, and animals are prohibited. Those using the facility are asked not to climb on the water features Read More
County Shares Detailed Schedule For Piñon Park Pool

Los Alamos County staff are excited for the opening of Piñon Park Pool, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 23.
Piñon Park Pool will also be open from 1-5 p.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25.
Staff has shared a more detailed schedule for the 2026 summer season at the facility.
Schedule:
- Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- 7-9 a.m. – Lap swim, 6 lanes
- 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Lap swim, 6 lanes
- 2 lanes are reserved for swim teams Monday through Thursday
- 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. – Open recreation swim
- 6-7 p.m. – Lap swim, 6 lanes
- Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Open recreation swim and 505 swim lessons

Gartz Has Perfect Prediction In Weekly Pace Race

Eddie Gartz had a perfect prediction in the weekly pace race held in Overlook Park in White Rock. He predicted a time of 7:40 for his finish time. Other accurate predictors were Eliverio Acosta at 2 seconds off; Deana Tsang recording a 4 second differential; Adrian Medin at 5 seconds off; and Catherine Hensley with a 10 second difference.
On the 1-mile road course Lynn Bjorklund was the best finisher at 8:02 and Ted Romero was the first male with a time of 8:59.
