Fr. Glenn: Off You Go!

By Rev. Glenn Jones
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church

It seems that the Faith and Science forum will be starting up again this week, with an apparent focus on evolution for this summer season. Should be some interesting talks.

Even though the existence of the numerous different Christian denominations should make the fact obvious, many non-Christians seem to be unaware that Christians are not monolithic in many basic beliefs—evolution being one of them. Beliefs concerning the Bible and the interpretation of scripture—especially of the Creation accounts of Genesis—range Read More

Fr. Glenn: Thanks For The Memories…

I was watching a live Facebook feed of the graduation of one of our parish’s young lads at Airborne School at Ft. Benning, Georgia, the other day, and couldn’t help but reminisce of those days of young adulthood … walking those same fields and flight lines several decades ago, leaping from perfectly good airplanes, strutting with swelled chest (and swelled head), parading freshly-earned jump wings. And this old jarhead also can’t help swell with pride (and no little envy) at two other of our young lads who will be attending Read More

What kind of people steal memorial flowers and property from a columbarium?

The United Church of Los Alamos’ columbarium is a resting place for the remains of deceased members. The area provides a venue for prayer and reflection, and the beautiful spot is maintained by the loving hands of congregation members.

Imagine how disheartening it is to discover thieves not only took away flowers and containers but vandalized other areas of the property for good measure.

Fr. Glenn: The Leap Of Faith

By Rev. Glenn Jones

Many thanks to Terry Goldman for his comments about last week’s column. He mentions a “quibble”, there’s really no quibble at all because we’re in full agreement concerning the realm of physical sciences. My point was that, absent tangible and verifiable evidence, we use that which we have to determine the likely existence (or not) of an entity.

For instance, in the dark matter example, even if no further evidence could be found either to the affirmation or contrary, science would likely still hypothesize its existence by Read More
