Yom Kippur In Brief

What: Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year, when we are closest to G‑d and to the essence of our souls. Yom Kippur means “Day of Atonement,” as the verse states, “For on this day He will forgive you, to purify you, that you be cleansed from all your sins before G‑d.”

When: The 10th day of Tishrei, coming on the heels of Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year, which is on the first and second days of Tishrei).

How: For nearly 26 hours (in 2017, from several minutes before sunset Sept. 29 until after nightfall Sept. 30) we “afflict our souls” by avoiding the following five actions: Read More

Fr. Glenn: Time…Precious Time

By Rev. Glenn Jones
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church
Los Alamos

Cute joke in the e-mail the other day:

Finally, an attendant motioned him toward a vacant pump. “Father,” said the young man, “I’m so sorry about the delay. By Rev. Glenn Jones
Immaculate Heart of Mary Church

Many no doubt saw the recent press release in which the Catholic Archbishop of Santa Fe published the names of the members of Catholic clergy who have been accused of past sexual abuse of children. It’s no new news that those things happened, but if you’re like me, your reaction may have been: “Wow … so many.” At least know that they have all been permanently removed from ministry, if not now deceased. I know of no allegations of new abuse by clergy in our archdiocese for many years now, and all of us in ministry pray that that beast never again Read More
