An icon painting workshop in the Byzantine-Russian tradition is June 12-17 in Santa Fe. The Prosopon School of Iconology introduces students to the practice and theory of the ancient Christian art of icon-writing in the Byzantine-Russian tradition.
In the intensive, “hands-on” workshop each participant will paint an icon using traditional techniques and materials. Tuition for the six-day workshop is $675, which includes tuition, a traditionally gessoed icon board and all materials. Read More

The United Thrift Shop is hosting a Bag Sale Wednesday, May 24 at the United Church of Los Alamos at 2525 Canyon Road.
Customers may fill a bag for $6 (something new). This sale excludes jewelry.
The United Church Thrift Shop, operated by the Women’s Christian Service Society (WCSS), is open for shoppers 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesdays.
The shop accepts donations of gently used and clean clothes, linens, housewares, jewelry, shoes, toys and children’s books. Items not accepted include
Los Alamos Faith And Science Forum Launches 2017 Summer Series

Again this summer the Los Alamos Faith and Science Forum will present a series of talks by local speakers during May, June and July. The theme of the talks is “Hope: Science, Religion and the Future”. There will be seven Wednesday evening meetings including May 31; June 7, 14, 28 and July 12, 19, 26.
The meetings will follow the usual format: light supper at 6 p.m., talk at 6:30 p.m., followed by questions for the speaker and then table discussions. In a change from the past two years, these talks will be in the Fellowship Hall of the Unitarian Church at 1738 N Sage Loop in Los Alamos.

Many thanks, dearest ladies, for the love and dedication you give to your children, and for the infinite sacrifices you make for their welfare and rearing. We Judeo-Christians always hold high in our memories that fourth Commandment: “Honor your father and your mother” (Exodus 20:12), and as St. Paul points out: “this is the first commandment with a promise, ‘…that your days may be long in the land which the LORD your God gives you.’” (Ephesians 6:2-3). LA Cares is a small, independent organization, providing help to the needy of Los Alamos County. Volunteers are needed to help with the upcoming food drive and ongoing food distribution activities.

Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. (NIV Proverbs 31:29)
Too often, it seems, we only really grasp a blessing long after the fact. I know that in my own life, I have taken many of them for granted. Some of the most important blessings in my life came in the form of mothers who carried loads that I was far too weak or ill equipped to carry.
Let me first say that women are certainly not weaker than men. I have heard that, pound for pound, silk is stronger than steel. If the mothers that God has placed in my life are any indication,
