Fr. Glenn: In Memoriam

By Rev. Glenn Jones
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church
Los Alamos

On May 29th we’ll have our annual celebration of Memorial Day … the remembrance of those who have died in the service of our nation and her people in the armed forces, and, by extension, the fire, police, Coast Guard, and all others who put their lives on the line to serve and to protect, and yet lived not to see another dawn.

It is a day to remember those who sought to protect and defend our nation and our liberty … to aid and to defend even those they had never met.

Pastor Granillo: By Faith Alone?

By Pastor Raul Granillo
La Vista Church of the Nazarene
White Rock

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV)

“Salvation by faith alone, and not by works” has been a repetitive drum beat in the protestant church. The scriptures are clear that no person can earn salvation. If they could, it would be something God owed them instead of a true gift of grace. If it could be earned, then Jesus’ death was in vain. While this doctrine is certainly biblically based, it has also

Fr. Glenn: Happy Mothers’ Day

By Rev. Glenn Jones
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church

Well, a very happy and blessed Mothers’ Day to all of you mothers out there! Many thanks, dearest ladies, for the love and dedication you give to your children, and for the infinite sacrifices you make for their welfare and rearing. We Judeo-Christians always hold high in our memories that fourth Commandment: “Honor your father and your mother” (Exodus 20:12), and as St. Paul points out: “this is the first commandment with a promise, ‘…that your days may be long in the land which the LORD your God gives you.’” (Ephesians 6:2-3). Pastor Raul Granillo: Stronger Than Steel

By PASTOR RAUL GRANILLO
La Vista Church
Los Alamos

Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. (NIV Proverbs 31:29)

Too often, it seems, we only really grasp a blessing long after the fact. I know that in my own life, I have taken many of them for granted. Some of the most important blessings in my life came in the form of mothers who carried loads that I was far too weak or ill equipped to carry.

Let me first say that women are certainly not weaker than men. I have heard that, pound for pound, silk is stronger than steel. If the mothers that God has placed in my life are any indication,
