Still Time To Register For 70th Atomic City Invitational

SPORTS News:

There are still a few spots remaining for the 70th Atomic City Invitational (ACI).

This is the longest running match play event in the Southwest. Dates are July 1 through July 4. Go to www.lagolfassociation.org to view the event schedule and to register.

The cost is $275 per player and includes three days of match play, kick-off reception, dinners, contests, prizes and more.

Thrive Community Charter School Teaching Kids How To Ride A Bike In Eight Lessons

SANTA FE — The All Kids Bike Kindergarten Learn-to-Ride Program is a fleet of 24 bikes, pedal conversion kits, helmets, one teacher instruction bike and certified curriculum teacher training, which is everything needed to teach kids how to progress from balance to riding a bike in 8 lessons at Thrive Community Charter School.

NM-WT Amateur Championship At Black Mesa June 26-28

ESPANOLA – The 2023 New Mexico-West Texas (NM-WT) Amateur Championship is set to take place June 26-28 at Black Mesa Golf Club. This will be a 54-hole stroke play event that will feature some of the best amateur golfers from New Mexico and West Texas.

Defending champion and current New Mexico State Aggie Aidan Thomas will return to the 2023 field two days after competing in the Northeast Amateur in Rhode Island. Thomas will tee off  round one at 8:10 a.m. off the first tee, playing alongside teammate and 2021 SCAGA Men’s Player of the Year River Smalley.

The New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors are sad to announce the passing of Board President Theo Barela Wednesday morning. He was serving his second year as president.

Barela went the extra mile to make the Hall of Fame events special for the honorees. He also positively impacted the community in a variety of ways. Barela was a Menual School (1970) and UNM (1975) graduate who was in hotel management since 1975 across the country. He was the director of the lodging committee of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

The New Mexico Games 2023 was held Sunday, June 18 at West Mesa Aquatic Center in Albuquerque.

Mountain club won first place with 2,234 points; Duke City Barracuda finished in second place with 1,722 points; and Kraken earned third place with 1,137 points.

Mountain Club had 44 swimmers with 13 relays during the meet. The age groups are 8 & under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18, and Masters age groups in 5 year increments.

The heat will be on soon as New Mexico enters a dry and hot stretch of weather. Stream flows continue to fall and will soon be back to normal in several drainages

The water level at Abiquiu Reservoir has reached near record levels. Picnic shelters that once stood on dry land are now standing in water. Access to the main boat ramp is open, but much of the parking area is now under water. Fishing for now will be challenging as the fish will be scattered.
