Results For Third Annual Wolf Creek Ski Area Fun Race

Wolf Creek Ski Area hosted its third Fun Race for the season Sunday, Jan. 22. The modified grand slalom course was held on Lower Charisma with a nicely groomed course. The race brought with it an amazing  turnout of 63 racers, with racers traveling in from Oklahoma, North Carolina and Arizona.

The overall winner for the day was once again Corbin Horrocks, of South Fork, with the fastest time of 25.29 seconds – a nearly two second improvement from his last winning race on Jan. 8, 2023. Read More

The weather this coming week threw us a curve with a strong winter storm focusing on Southern New Mexico. It can get pretty nasty on the Southeastern plains of our state when blizzard conditions can exist due to heavy snow and strong winds. Better postpone any plans for a trip to Southeastern New Mexico until later this winter.

On the plus side, it will bring much-needed moisture to this part of New Mexico. Sierra Blanca should be beautiful with a fresh coat of snow.

Los Alamos High School (LAH) Girls Cross Country Coach Kathy Hipwood has been selected as the 2022 Girls High School Cross Country Coach of the Year for the state of New Mexico by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

This is the second year in a row, and third time in the last four years that Coach Hipwood has received this recognition.

Los Alamos Hockey Association Announces High School Hockey Team Wins Mid-Year Tournament In Amarillo

The Los Alamos Hockey Association (LAHA) has announced that the high school hockey team won the Mid-Year Tournament played earlier this month in Amarillo. 

They won by beating 3 teams and losing to 1:

  • Game 2: Albuquerque Bears, LA Won 6 to 3;
  • Game 3: Amarillo Wranglers, LA Won 7 to 5;
  • Championship: Cibola Cougars, LA Won on a shutout; and
  • Game 1: Cibola Cougars, LA Lost 4 to 3 in overtime.

Pajarito opens this Saturday, Jan. 21.

With more than two feet of snow over the past week, Mother Nature finally showed up, and the mountain conditions are incredible. The mountain will be open Saturday and Sunday and Friday-Sunday next week.

Officials will be evaluating options for opening more during the week in the coming days.

The mountain operations team has worked tirelessly to get the slopes ready, and have been hiring as quickly as possible to become fully staffed this season. Read More
