County Ice Rink Opening Delayed Due To Faulty Motor

COUNTY News:

Opening day for the Los Alamos County Ice Rink is delayed due to a faulty motor in the new chiller. The motor experienced an internal short circuit during performance testing conducted by Modern Mechanical Ices Systems (MMIS), the chiller designer-builder.

MMIS was onsite at the time of the incident, and although a fire was detected inside the motor frame, they were able to react quickly to prevent any damage to the chiller or the facility.

Repairs are anticipated within the week, allowing for an estimated new opening day of Nov. 28.

Topper Girls Soccer Closes Out Season With Loss To Hope Christian Huskies

The Topper Girl’s soccer team suffered a loss in the hands of the Hope Christian Huskies in a State Semifinals game played on the soccer field at Bernalillo High School Tuesday night by a score of 0-4. The Toppers closed out their season as 4A-2 District Champions and a record of 14-6-2. The Huskies just proved to be the stronger of the two teams and controlled the game.

The Los Alamos High School Hilltopper Girls Soccer team moved on to the State Semifinals after a commanding 3-0 victory over the Artesia Bulldogs in last Friday’s quarterfinal match. The vistory extended the Hilltoppers’ winning streak to eight straight games – all shutouts with zero goals allowed.

Elementary School Mile Held At Los Alamos Golf Course

And they’re off! The 2025 Elementary School Mile was held in conjunction with the Cross Country District Championship on Halloween at the Los Alamos Golf Course, having been postponed from the previous week’s Home Meet due to lightning. A total of 72 young athletes competed.  The top boy was Fynn Smith of Aspen Elementary School in a time of 6:34, and the top girl was Gracie Nichols of Pinon Elementary School in a time of 6:57.
