The 8th Annual Caldera Runs took place Saturday. More than 300 runners turn out each year to tackle the challenging, hilly terrain of New Mexico’s Run the Caldera Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K.

The events take runners through the Valles Caldera National Preserve, a 12-mile-wide collapsed caldera volcano that lies a short drive west of Los Alamos and the nearby Bandelier National Monument, amidst the Jemez Mountains.

Derby Season Opens with Regional Mashup

The Los Alamos Roller Derby season opened Saturday when the Derby Dames hosted players from around the area in a Regional Mashup. Los Alamos Ski Club Meetings Scheduled to Address Skiing Future

LASC News:

  • Meeting to discuss and vote on a proposal to transfer club assets to a private/public partnership for continued operation and improvement of Pajarito Mountain Ski Area will be held May 15 with two informal informational meetings May 5 and May 10 with representatives from the partnership on hand to answer questions.

McClellan Top Predictor in Ruth Demuth Memorial Pace Race

Laura McClellan was 1 second off her predicted time in the weekly pace race held on North Mesa, which honored longtime Atomic City Roadrunner (ACR) member, the late Ruth Demuth. 
 
Other top predictors were Ted Williams at 3 seconds off, Nikol Strother recording a 5 second differential as well as the top finisher on the three mile course at 20:40, Ted Romero at 6 seconds off and the first male in the three mile distance with a time of 21:38, and Linda Vance recording 8 seconds off.
 
On the one mile course, Morela Vargas had the best time of 12:33.
