Los Alamos Senior Olympic Games Continue

This Week’s Senior Olympic Games Schedule:

  • Monday: 8-ball pool (1 pm) and racquetball (Y at 2:30 p.m.)
  • Wednesday: Talent and Dance at the Betty Ehart Senior Center (noon)*
  • Friday: bowling singles at the Big Rock Casino Bowl (1 p.m.)
  • Saturday: track and field at Los Alamos High School (8 a.m.)

Chamisa’s Annual Atomic Glow Run May 17

CHAMISA News:
 
The annual Glow Run is Saturday, May 17 at Chamisa Elementary School in White Rock.
 
The race begins at 7 p.m., but everyone should show up a bit earlier to pick up their t-shirt and glow sticks. Registering early (by May1) guarantees you a t-shirt and glow stick.
 
There will be a 1 mile course and 5k course. 1 milers start at Chamisa and run down Meadow to Overlook Road, cross the street and run back to Chamisa taking small detour through Joya Loop.
 
The 5k racers will run the Meadow-Rover loop around White Rock.

It was a very good two days for the Los Alamos High School Track & Field athletes Friday and Saturday at the Richard Harper Invitational at Albuquerque Academy.

LAHS NJROTC Honor Guard performs the posting of the colors at this morning’s Los Alamos Little League Opening Day Ceremony at North Mesa Majors Field. Local Student Places First in State Drill Meet

Los Alamos resident Sarah Kirkland earned a top award at the New Mexico State Military Skills Championships held April 12 at La Cueva High School in Albuquerque.

Kirkland placed first in the Drill Down, an individual competition to determine who is most proficient at executing drill commands properly.

Students from more than 20 schools attended the drill meet and participated in the drill down. Kirkland is a high school freshman at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell. Read More

LAHS Athletic Director Accepts Job in Clackamas, Ore.

The Los Alamos Public Schools Athletic Department has announced that Athletic Director Vicki Nelms has resigned. She has accepted the athletic director position at Clackamas High School, in Clackamas, Ore.

Nelms will assume her duties July 1. Clackamas is the fourth largest high school in Oregon and competes at the 6A level. She is replacing Jeff Erdman who is retiring after 14 years as the AD at Clackamas. Nelms has been at Los Alamos High School since the beginning of the 2007 school year.

The National High School Athletic Coaches Association has announced the advancement of Kathy and Rob Hipwood from Los Alamos High School as a finalist for the National High School Athletic Coaches Association national coach of the year in the sport of cross country.

LAHS Boys Soccer – Spring Meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 in the Speech Theater (near the AUX Gym) at Los Alamos High School.

This is for All interested players (7th-11th grade) and parents.

The Los Alamos Senior Olympic games are underway. Sheryl Bailey and Cy Jakubowski qualified for the State Games in basketball free throw and 3-point shot and six runners qualified in the 5K and four runners in the 10K road race Saturday, April 19.

Local snowboarder Cade Van Etten, age 9, placed 16th out of 40 in his age group at the USASA National Championships April 8 in Copper Mountain, Colo. This is an amazing showing, since Cade competes in the 13 and under category. He is competing against kids up to four years older than he.
