Boys and Girls Invited to Participate in Annual Knights of Columbus Free Throw Competition

Boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship.

The local competition will be held 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26 from at Los Alamos High School’s Griffith Gymnasium.

Registration will be held onsite beginning at 12:30 p.m. and it’s free of charge.

Stilwell Leads Way for Atomic Tumblers’ at Gold Cup Classic

The boys’ competitive team from Los Alamos School of Gymnastics competed in the Men’s Gold Cup Classic in Albuquerque on Jan. 5-6.

The Atomic Tumblers’ competed against 115 gymnasts from 11 teams from New Mexico and Texas.

‘Bicycle Dreams’ Documentary Premieres Jan. 24

RAAM News:

Bicycle Dreams, the award-winning feature-length documentary about the Race Across America (RAAM), will premiere in Albuquerque at the University of New Mexico’s Rodey Theatre at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24.

The screening is presented as a benefit by the Bicycle Coalition of New Mexico. Bike NM will host a second screening the following Thursday, Jan. 31 at The Screen in Santa Fe.

Guest speaker at the event will be Lisa Dougherty of Los Alamos, who will be competing in her first RAAM this summer.

LAHS Head Girls Varsity Basketball Coach Resigns

LAHS News:

Head Girls Varsity Basketball Coach, Tarah Logan, resigned her position at Los Alamos High School effective today, Jan. 14, for family reasons. 

Logan had been coaching the girl’s team at the high school since June 2008.

The interim girl’s varsity basketball coach, taking over immediately will be Ann Stewart. 

Coach Stewart, a graduate of Los Alamos High School, has been a head girls basketball coach at Bloomfield High School from 2004-07.

Colorado Springs, Colo. – For the second time in the last three weeks, Alex Kirk of Los Alamos has earned a Mountain West honor, being named Co-Player of the Week after leading UNM to a pair of home wins in its first 2-0 conference start in 11 years Sunday.

LAHS Finishes 2nd at Wrestling Invitational

LAHS WRESTLING News:

 

On Saturday, Jan. 12, the Los Alamos High School wrestling team finished in second place behind 5A Eldorado at the Academy High School Wrestling Invitational.

 

Teams participating in Saturday’s invitational included Albuquerque Academy High, Albuquerque High, Bernalillo, Eldorado, Grants, La Cueva, LAHS, Rio Grande and West Mesa.

 

Placing in their weight classes were:

  • Cory Geyer 1st;
  • Brian Geyer 1st;
  • Arnoldo Ortiz 1st in his second overtime match;
