Plenty of action underway in front of the Arizona goal today during the 2025 Nuclear Shootout Hockey Tournament at the Los Alamos County Ice Rink. This exciting college hockey tournament runs through Sunday and features teams from Texas State University, Texas A&M University, Santa Clara University, Arizona State University and University of New Mexico, which brings high-intensity action to the ice during this three-day event. The Los Alamos Ice Rink is proud to announce the return of the Nuclear Shootout Hockey Tournament, set to take place from Friday, Jan. 17 to Sunday, Jan. 19, 2025. This exciting, three-day college hockey event will feature top teams from across the nation, bringing high-intensity action to the ice.

The snowpack in Northern New Mexico improved somewhat last week and now is 32-percent of normal. The weather forecast for this coming week looks like typical January weather with highs in the 40’s and lows in the low 20’s and teens. 

Next week could see an Artic blast thanks to the Polar Vortex plunging south. These cold blasts are no joke and temperatures can plunge well-below zero in some of our high mountain valleys.

Los Alamos County has joined forces with the University of New Mexico and Los Alamos Hockey Association to return the Nuclear Shootout College Hockey Tournament to the Los Alamos County Ice Rink.

This event kicks off at 9 a.m. Jan. 17 and wraps up Jan. 19.

Team participating in this two-day tournament include Colorado Air Force, Missouri State, Arizona State University and University of New Mexico.
