Los Alamos Golf Course To Re-open Saturday Sept. 21

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Golf Course is scheduled to re-open Saturday, Sept. 21.

The entire front 9 will be available for play, featuring temporary tee locations for all holes.

Please note that holes #7 and #8 will have both temporary tee locations and temporary greens during this period.

The Golf Course’s online reservation system is now open, making it easy for players to book tee times.

The Los Alamos High School Hilltoppers Girls Soccer Team hosted the Rio Rancho Rams on Tuesday at Sullivan Field for their second home game of the season.

The Toppers controlled the game from the first whistle to the final score of 4-1.

Streamflow on the Rio Grande has dropped and is now less than 100 cubic-feet-per-second at Cerro. That is where the Rio Grande enters New Mexico from Colorado. 

The low water makes the stretch of river from the confluence with the Red River north to the Colorado state border in prime condition for anglers. Pools and pockets behind boulders may be fished more effectively during this low water period than they can be when the water is higher. 

The daily limit in this section is two trout. There are big brown trout in this section and a few wild rainbows. Read More

Mustangs Gear Up For First Tournament Showcase Sept. 20

The New Mexico Mustangs Girls Tier II hockey team is set to take the ice next weekend for their highly anticipated first tournament showcase at the Outpost in Albuquerque.

The Los Alamos players participating in the tournament are Adrienne Burrows, Cecelia Pietryga and Aryn Ward.

The Mustangs will face some stiff competition, taking on Team Arizona Kachinas, Colorado Mountain Select, Colorado 14ers, and the Anaheim Lady Ducks in a three-day showdown.

Topper Football Wins Big Over Highland Hornets

Akin Leila scored 5 touchdowns Friday night during the Los Alamos High School Topper Varsity Football game against Albuquerque’s Highland Hornets on Sullivan Field. The Toppers beat the Hornets 69-40. The game was more exciting than the score might indicate with lots of action by both teams, but the Hornets had no answer for the Topper offense. Stanley Is Best Predictor In Weekly Pace Race

ACRR News:

Cliff Stanley was the top predictor in the Atomic City Road Runners (ACRR) weekly pace race held early Tuesday evening on Arizona Avenue at the Pajarito Complex.

Stanley was 6 seconds off his predicted time as well as the first male finisher on the 1 mile course. 

Other accurate predictors:

  • Deana Tsang with a 8 second differential;
  • David Liu recording a 13 second difference;
  • Sasha Tomalak at 14 seconds off; and

On the 1 mile distance:

  • Lisa Johnson was the top finisher at 11:47.

On the 3 mile course:

  • Paul Geimer recorded a 20:15 for first place; and
  • Priscila Rosa was the best female finisher
