DHS Announces REAL ID Enforcement Extended Until 2025 Due To Lingering Impacts Of COVID-19

SANTA FE — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced Monday the enforcement of the REAL ID Act will be extended again for 24 months – pushing the implementation date to May 3, 2025.

DHS is citing the lingering impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic as the reason for the extension, stating: “REAL ID progress over the past two years has been significantly hindered by state driver’s licensing agencies having to work through the backlogs created by the pandemic.”

Traffic Camera Installation At Trinity Intersection Dec. 8

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County has announced that traffic electricians will be installing new traffic cameras at the intersection of Trinity Drive on the southwest corner of the intersection at Diamond Drive.

Work will begin 8 a.m. and run through 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8.

The turn/accel lane leading from west Trinity Drive heading south onto Diamond Drive will be closed. Vehicle traffic will need to make a right turn at the intersection onto Diamond Drive.

Fiber Optic Work On West Road & Fairway Begins Dec. 7

COUNTY News:

Under contract with the Los Alamos County Information Management Division, Bixby Electric Inc. will install fiber optics in the County rights-of-way on the southeast side of West Road, between Diamond and Fairway, and the south side of Fairway at the West Road intersection heading west approximately 300 feet.

This work supports a project to bring fiber optics to the Los Alamos County Ice Rink.

Construction will begin Wednesday, Dec. 7, and may continue through Saturday, Dec. 10.

Starting Monday, Dec. 5, contractors for Los Alamos County will be constructing drive pads at 1216 and 1407 Central Ave.

Streets crews will be removing dead trees along the west side of North Road between Sycamore and Quemazon Road.

Periodic Lane Closure On DP Road Through Friday

Contractors for Los Alamos County are constructing a sidewalk extension along the southside of DP Road from the end of the existing sidewalk east of 6th Street to Trinity Drive.

During this activity, a lane closure on DP Road will be needed periodically.  Contractor employees (flaggers) will be used to direct traffic and pedestrians safely through the work area during these times.
