NMSP Increases Enforcement For Christmas Holiday

With Christmas right around the corner, the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) is encouraging drivers to make safety a top priority this holiday, as increased travel can present additional challenges for drivers.

As part of the nationwide Operation CARE (Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort) initiative, NMSP will be increasing patrols beginning Friday, Dec. 23, through Monday, Dec. 26. Atomic City Transit Services Closed Monday Dec. 26

ACT News

Atomic City Transit regular scheduled bus service and para transit will not operate Monday, Dec. 26 in observance of the Christmas holiday.

Regular service will resume Tuesday Dec. 27, 2022.

Route 3 regular route, 2, 1 & 6 Peak Services will remain suspended until further notice due to staffing shortage.

NCRTD Announces 2022 Holiday Schedule

NCRTD News:

The North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD) RTD Blue Buses and administrative offices will not be in operation Dec. 23, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2, in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays respectively.

Exceptions will include the following:

  • 255 Mountain Trail to Ski Santa Fe will operate on its non-winter schedule each day Dec. 23 through Jan. 2;
  • The weekend service on the 305 Taos Express will not operate Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. It will operate Dec. 24 and Dec. 31;
  • 341 TSV Green which operates Thursday through Sunday only, will continue to operate on that schedule throughout

Road Striping Project On Central Begins Monday Dec. 19

COUNTY News:

Weather permitting, Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets crews will be laying out and striping the roadway on Central Avenue, between 15th Street and Oppenheimer beginning Dec. 19 until complete.

Crews will begin work at 8 a.m. and finish by 3:30 p.m. daily.

There will be a flagging operation in place. Please obey the flaggers and crew as they guide you through the work zone.

NMDOT Requests $889 Million For FY24 Budget

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) is presenting its final FY24 budget request to the Legislative Finance Committee (LFC) at the state capitol.

The department is making a case for a one-time additional General Fund appropriation of $889.7 million to support road infrastructure investments.

Study Finds Drivers With Child Passengers At Significantly Higher Risk Of Fatal Crashes

PIRE News:

A new study from the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation (PIRE), the University of Connecticut, and Bates College finds that adult drivers with child passengers are significantly more likely than those without child passengers to be involved in fatal crashes. 

The research was funded by a grant from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.

In specific, the results of this important driver safety research show that:

  • Childhood crash exposure when traveling with an adult driver is low: 0.78 percent of vehicle miles traveled by adults included a child
