Camp May Road Work Updated Due To Lack Of Snow

COUNTY News:

With high hopes for a snowy ski season at Pajarito Mountain, the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) previously shortened closures on Camp May Road during the holidays. Unfortunately, the mountain is still too dry for skiing, and as such, the road closure schedule is being adjusted again to take advantage of the favorable weather conditions for construction.

Alert: Main Hill Road Closed Due To Rockslide

UPDATE: As of 8:25 a.m. the Main Hill Road has been cleared and reopened.

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) report that both east and westbound lanes of N.M. 502, Main Hill Road, are closed due to a rockslide near Anderson Overlook.

LAPD officers are on scene and the New Mexico Department of Transportation is en route. Traffic is being rerouted to East Jemez Road or the Truck Route. 

At this time, there is no estimated timeline for when the roadway will reopen.

New Mexico Department Of Transportation Seeks Public Input On Statewide Active Transportation Plan

NMDOT News:

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Transportation is asking residents to help shape a new Active Transportation Plan that will guide future pedestrian and bicycle improvements on state-owned roads.

As part of the plan’s development process, the project team is soliciting public input via an online survey, available in English and Spanish. Public participation will help NMDOT better understand and respond to the needs of people who walk, bike, and roll in New Mexico.

Skier Shuttle Returns To Purgatory With 5 Pick-Up Locations

Purgatory Resort resumed its skier shuttle service Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025, offering a convenient way to reach the mountain during the 2025–26 season. The shuttle runs Friday–Sunday (with additional service during peak periods) and operates as a daily round trip.

          • Use caution while driving on forest roads in the winter

SANTA FE — Due to winter weather conditions, the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) will close some forest roads susceptible to damage to protect public health and safety, infrastructure, and natural resources.

Seasonal road closures generally occur between December and May because of winter weather and hazardous road conditions. The closures prohibit the use of motorized vehicles, including all-terrain vehicles and motorcycles, on restricted roads when gates are closed, locked or posted with a closure sign.
