SANTA FE ― The New Year brings a new schedule for car and booster seat inspections. The New Mexico Department of Transportation and Safer New Mexico Now will host car seat inspection clinics and fitting stations statewide in 2020.
 
This free educational event provides parents and caregivers the opportunity to receive hands-on instruction from nationally-certified child passenger safety technicians. Technicians will educate parents on the proper selection, installation and use of car seats and booster seats.

County Offers New Year’s Eve Buzz Bus Dec. 31

If you need a safe ride on New Year’s Eve, Los Alamos County, the DWI-Planning Council and Atomic City Transit are here to help.
 
The “Buzz Bus,” will be operating to encourage people not to drink and drive, allow residents not to weather the roads, and to put their safety first. The skilled drivers of the ACT program will transport anyone safely throughout the community.
 
The bus will operate at 6 p.m. from Tues. Dec. 31 and continue through 12:30 a.m., Jan. 1. The Dial-A-Ride program can be reached at 661-RIDE or 505.661.7433.

NMDOT Tips To Stay Safe On Roads Over Holiday

SANTA FE ― The National Safety Council (NSC) estimates as many as 278 people may be killed in crashes between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
 
Last year at Christmas, 37 percent of fatal crashes involved alcohol. That number rose to 39 percent on New Year’s Eve.
 
In addition, this year during Christmas and New Year’s Eve combined, more than 30,000 people could be seriously injured in crashes, according to the NSC.
 
To make the holiday travel safer, NMDOT recommends:
  • Buckling up;
  • Designating a sober driver;
  • Avoiding distracted driving, including hands-free;

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Mothers Against Drunk Driving® (MADD) is teaming up with law enforcement agencies across the country throughout the month of December, which has been recognized as National Impaired Driving Prevention Month for the 39th consecutive year.
