Road Striping – Los Alamos & White Rock:

Traffic and Streets Division crews continue striping local roadways to replace faded markings for traffic safety. Crews are working east on Trinity and east on Canyon/Central to East Road at the edge of Los Alamos. Once they have completed striping in Los Alamos, they will move to White Rock. Work will continue until main roadways are finished; all work is expected to wrap up mid-July. Read More

SANTA FE According to New Mexico law, drivers must secure their loads or face a $300 fine for littering on state highways.
 
New Mexico statute 66-7-364 states, “No person shall throw, deposit, drop or permit to be dropped, any trash, or destructive, injurious material upon any highway.”
 
In 2016 nationwide, there were 683 deaths, more than 19-thousand injuries and more than 90- thousand traffic incidents related to unsecured loads, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

County Utility Work On Quartz Begins Monday June 10

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities electric crews will resume the Quartz Street project to replace electric lines and improve the neighborhood’s electric reliability beginning Monday, June 10 and continuing through mid-August.

The project was placed on hold over the winter season.

Through traffic along Quartz will be restricted during the work day with traffic detoured to Rim Road. Full access to Quartz will be restored by late afternoon as crews wrap up.

Crews will work in small sections in the roadway to excavate, install conduit and then backfill the open trench. Read More

NMSP Launch Police Sobriety Checkpoints And Saturation Patrols Across New Mexico In June

New Mexico State Police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols and registration, insurance and driver’s license checkpoints in every county across the state during the month of June.
 
NMSP is bringing awareness to these events in an effort to reduce alcohol related fatalities through continued media attention and intensive advertising. These checkpoints are helping to change society’s attitude about drinking and driving.

State Police 2019 Memorial Day Traffic Operation

During the Memorial Day holiday last weekend, New Mexico State Police participated in the Combined Accident Reduction Effort (CARE) operation across all roadways within the state. 

The goal of the traffic initiative is that a strong law enforcement presence will have a direct effect on the driving behavior of motorists during the holiday weekend, and, thus, reduce the number of crashes and increase motorist safety.
