Alert: Police Urge Caution As Winter Storm Approaches Los Alamos County

LAPD News:

As Los Alamos County braces for a winter storm forecast to begin this evening, Nov. 29, the Los Alamos Police Department is urging motorists to use caution when traveling in winter weather.

LAPD Urges Motorists To Follow These Tips:

  • Decrease your speed – Speed is a leading factor among winter crashes.
  • Increase the distance between you and the next vehicle – Additional distance will allow for the extra time needed to stop.
  • Check the tread on your tires – Good tire tread should be 6/32 or deeper. Consider replacing older tires or rotating your tires.

Desert Wind Transport is working with Los Alamos Public Schools to transport an oversized portable classroom at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, from Chamisa Elementary School in White Rock to Albuquerque.

The planned route is from Chamisa Elementary School on Meadow Lane to Rover Boulevard to N.M. 4 and continuing to Albuquerque.

Commuters are asked to avoid this route during this time.

ALBUQUERQUE — After three public-comment sessions over two days, 65 New Mexicans have spoken up strongly in favor of the health, economic and climate benefits of Clean Cars and Trucks standards.

Update: Manhattan Loop Closure To Reopen Noon Monday

COUNTY News:

The closure on Manhattan Loop Road will remain until noon, Monday, Nov. 27 to allow the concrete to cure properly.

Franco’s Builder, working under contract for Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets, closed the Southeast entrance to Manhattan Loop (off Canyon Road) for concrete work. Work began Monday, Nov. 20.

Urban Trail Phase I & II Multi-Use Trail Project Construction

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County is under contract with Hasse Contracting Company Inc. to construct the Urban Trail Phase I & II Multi-use Trail Project. 

This project will construct an approximately 1-mile long 10ft wide concrete multi-use trail for pedestrians and bicyclists.  

Phase I starts at the intersection of Trinity Drive/20th Street and runs north through the Fuller Lodge grounds to the intersection of Ponderosa Street/Spruce Street. Emergency Water Repair Underway In Eastern Area

Utility crews from the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) are making an emergency repair to a water line at Spruce Street and 18th Street.
