New Mexico Tourism Department To Celebrate 2023 Annular Solar Eclipse At Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

SANTA FE — Saturday, Oct. 14, New Mexico will become one of the world’s premier viewing locations for the annular solar eclipse.

To celebrate, the New Mexico Tourism Department (NMTD) will be giving away limited-edition sticker decals that depict the fortuitous overlap of the annular solar eclipse and the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.

New Mexico Governor Orders Flags To Half-Staff In Mourning For Lives Lost In Israel

SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham ordered all flags in the state of New Mexico to half-staff from Oct. 13 to Oct. 16 in mourning for the people killed in the attack on Israel.

Kiwanis: Come Help The African Library Project Oct. 13

Friday, Oct. 13, the Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos will be in front of the Los Alamos Post Office asking for support to help pay for shipping costs to send books to remote African schools in need.

The African Library Project has been highly successful. Over the last seven years, the Los Alamos Kiwanis Club has helped to collect and ship more than 100 libraries to nine African countries where English is taught.

A new study finds that astronauts will be exposed to more radiation on the Moon’s surface and in deep space than they will be on Mars, creating a need for adequate shielding protection.

Los Alamos County Parks, Recreation and Open Space Divisions have partnered up with the Pajarito Astronomers for the Dark Night program.

Anyone with an interest in star gazing and the chance to look through a telescope is invited to come out to Spirio Soccer Fields tonight, Oct. 7, 2023, at Overlook Park in White Rock.

Volunteers from the Pajarito Astronomers Club will be present with telescopes starting about 7:30 p.m. until at least 10:30 p.m., and as late as midnight if there is continued interest.
