David Holmes ended his journey on this earth with his family by his side after a hard-fought battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). David was 62 years young. David was born to Everett and Merlyn Holmes in Kearny, NJ. His family moved out west to New Mexico in 1966 when he was 4 years old.

David graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1980 and went on to get his bachelor’s degree in Finance from New Mexico State University. He came back to Los Alamos and landed his first job as an officer at Bank of Los Alamos. He later moved on to work for the Los Alamos National Read More

LAHS Junior Wren Hammond Wins 2025 Congressional Art Competition

Los Alamos High School junior Wren Hammond won the 2025 Congressional Art Competition for Teresa Leger Fernandez’s District 3. Wren’s artwork, “Celebrating Diversity the New Mexico Way,” will hang as part of the Congressional Exhibition of National Winners at the US Capitol in Washington DC for one year.  

Wren will travel to Washington DC for a ceremony honoring the national winners and will have a tour of the Capital including the exhibit. She will also have the opportunity to meet with Congresswoman Leger Fernandez.

Concrete Barrier Wall Installation Begins 5 AM Saturday

COUNTY News:

Beginning at 5 a.m., Saturday, May 3, Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets crews will install a concrete barrier wall along Trinity Drive, behind the sidewalk between 20th Street and Oppenheimer Drive, near Ashley Pond.

Westbound traffic will be shifted into the left lane, and bicycle traffic will share the roadway.

The barrier is being installed to enhance safety for attendees during special events at Ashley Pond.

Drivers are advised to reduce speed in the area and remain alert for cyclists, pedestrians, construction crews, and equipment.

Outdoor Watering Schedule Starts Today

COUNTY News:

Community members who water outdoor spaces are reminded that the irrigation schedule under Water Rule W-8 is in effect from May 1-Sept. 30. Falling under the rules and regulations of the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU), W-8 outlines requirements for the conservation of water that is delivered to and used by DPU customers.

Community Cleanup Scheduled For May 3 As Part Of Adopt-A-Road Effort

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos Public Works Department, in coordination with local Adopt-A-Road participants, will host a community cleanup event from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., Saturday, May 3. Volunteers will be working across various areas in the townsite to remove litter and debris, helping keep our community safe, clean, and beautiful.

Los Alamos County Enters Stage 1 Fire Restrictions

Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has enacted fire restrictions to Stage 1 effective May 4, within the boundaries of the Incorporated County of Los Alamos to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts.
