County Council Tentatively Approves Police Budget

Budget Hearing News:

Los Alamos County Council tentatively approved, 7-0, the $10,428,992 budget for the Los Alamos Police Department during its budget hearing Tuesday night.

Two white ducks received an unpleasant welcome when an unknown individual dumped them Sunday afternoon at Ashley Pond.

Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) presents Juanita Madland performing, via a musical recording, pieces from Bach, Mozart, Chopin and others noon Wednesday for the Brown Bag Performance Series.

LARES Task Force Seeks Members For Subcommittees

The Los Alamos County Resiliency, Energy and Sustainability Task Force (LARES) is seeking letters of interest to appoint up to 15 community members to serve on the following subcommittees:

  • Natural Gas Reduction
  • Electrical Demand & Supply
  • Transportation & Mobility
  • Community Planning & Zoning
  • Waste, Consumption & Natural Resources

There are five subcommittees with two – three task force members on each subcommittee. There will be a representative of the main Task Force, chairing each subcommittee and providing a report back to the main Task Force. Read More

Traffic Alert! Lane Shift To North Side Of N.M. 502 For Roundabout Project Starts Monday April 5

COUNTY News:

Beginning Monday, east bound traffic east of the roundabout will shift to the north side of N.M. 502 and channel back into the east bound lane in front of the Crossroads Church.

This is necessary to demo and build alignments on the remaining south side of N.M. 502. The traveling public is advised to exercise caution while traveling through this area.

The COVID-19 situation in Los Alamos is beginning to improve and County Emergency Manager Beverley Simpson reported during the Jan. 26 regular council meeting on efforts underway to administer vaccines to the local community.

Tallman Celebrates 50th Anniversary With Rotary

Los Alamos resident Charles “Chuck” Tallman will soon celebrate his 90th birthday but that isn’t his only major milestone. This year also marks his 50th year in the Rotary Club of Los Alamos.

Tallman is the local club’s longest serving member. He said he joined the club in 1971 but his first experience with Rotary was much earlier.

He explained he grew up in a poor area in Oklahoma City but one of the things in his neighborhood was a big park built by the local Rotary Club.
