The Mexican Spotted Owl is a medium-sized, nocturnal bird that typically roosts during the day in cool, shaded areas and hunts at night, feeding on small mammals, birds, and insects.

They are known for their strong attachment to specific territories. Nesting areas can be found across Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and western Texas, extending south through several states in Mexico. Populations are “disjunct”, meaning they live in isolated clusters rather than one continuous stretch.

Laboratory Retiree Group Held Annual Meeting At BESC

The LRG is a non-profit organization that seeks to maintain communications with and to serve the needs and interests of all retirees from LANL. All Los Alamos National Laboratory retirees (and potential retirees) are invited to drop in at the group’s meetings, between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month, typically held at Muy Salsas at 1315 Trinity Drive. Rio Grande Gorge Rest Area To Close For Improvements

TAOS — The Rio Grande Gorge Rest Area will be closed on May 19 and May 20 to begin parking lot preservation work.

The scope of work includes crack sealing, fog sealing, and restriping of parking spaces and shoulders. During this project, there will be multiple days over the course of several weeks when the rest area will need to be closed for parking lot maintenance activities.

Shiprock Man Sentenced For Firing At Occupants Of Vehicle

FBI News:

ALBUQUERQUE — A Shiprock man was sentenced to seven years in prison for pointing a handgun at occupants of a vehicle and opening fire as they attempted to flee.

There is no parole in the federal system.

According to court documents, on Aug. 1, 2025, Bryson Chee, 43, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, arrived at a residence in Shiprock as a passenger in a vehicle with two others. After exiting the vehicle, Chee retrieved a handgun, pointed it at the occupants, and began shooting as they attempted to drive away.
