Sherwood Boulevard Roadway And Drainage Improvement Project Begins Monday In White Rock

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County announces that Star Paving will begin construction activities on a roadway and drainage improvement project Monday, Feb. 21 on Sherwood Boulevard in White Rock.

Work hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The contractor will coordinate with residents when removal of vehicles from their street will need to take place, and when required by contractor parking on the street will be prohibited.

Motorists are urged to use caution in the work zone.

Project phases include:

  • Phase 1 – Aztec Ave to Grand Canyon Drive;

Los Alamos County Golf Course Water Main Construction To Continue Feb. 21 Through March 31

COUNTY News:

Parker Construction will continue replacing the main water line, Feb. 21 through March 31, that maintains proper pressure for the front nine irrigation system at the Los Alamos County Golf Course.

The waterline runs underneath Diamond Drive, and the project manager said there will be shoulder work resulting in periodic closures of the bike lanes and shoulders on both sides of Diamond Drive throughout the project.

Los Alamos County has received another shipment of rapid antigen COVID-19 test kits. County officials indicate that these tests will be made available to local businesses that did not receive rapid tests from the County last month.

County Manager Announces Additional Delayed Openings

COUNTY News:

Due to hazardous weather conditions, the Los Alamos Visitor Center will open at 11 a.m. and the White Rock Visitor Center will open at noon today. 

Also, the Los Alamos County Ice Rink will have a delayed opening, however, the time that it will be able to open is currently unknown.

Interested individuals can watch the Los Alamos County Community Services Facebook page for updates or call the Ice Rink at  505.662.4500.

While the Senior Center is opening at 10 a.m., lunch will be served at its regularly scheduled time.

“Now hiring” signs can be spotted on business windows and doors all over town, including Los Alamos County government.

As of this week, Human Resources Manager Ty Ryburn said there are 14 advertised vacant positions in the County. These include positions in the Department of Public Utilities, Information Management Division, the County Library System, transit and the Police Department’s dispatch and detention center. Los Alamos County Manager Steven Lynne has ordered a two-hour delay for all non-essential County government facilities this morning, due to hazardous weather conditions.

Survey results from Los Alamos County’s Chapter 18 Nuisance Code are in and posted online, according to the Los Alamos County’s Community Development Department (CDD).

The survey findings will be presented to the County Council at the Tuesday, Feb. 22 Council meeting at 6 p.m. and to the Community Development Advisory Board on Monday, Feb. 28 at noon.
