Los Alamos Middle School created a Wall of Awesomeness as one of its suicide prevention activities during Suicide Prevention Awareness Week.

Tuesday, the 7th grade and 8th grade Student Council and some WEB Crew members assisted with putting the wall together and the staff added their answers Wednesday to the same questions.

Students were asked:

  • What makes life awesome?

Many youth answered that family makes their life awesome.

Soumyo Lahiri-Gupta Of Los Alamos Sets Sights On Becoming First U.S. President Of Indian Descent

Soumyo Lahiri-Gupta, 18, traveled home to Los Alamos from Albuquerque to cast his first vote in a General Election Thursday. Signing in at the Municipal Building with poll worker Linda Fox, Gupta-Lahiry explained that he is majoring in political science at UNM and his goal is to become the first president of the United States of Indian descent. Web Crew Hosts Game/Movie Night At LAMS Friday

All Los Alamos Middle School 7th graders are invited to a free game and movie night hosted by their Web Crew leaders 6-8 p.m., Friday in the LAMS cafeteria.

Hilltoppers Raise Funds For Wounded Warrior Project At Friday’s Game

The Hilltopper Football Team will go the extra mile Friday to raise funds for its annual Wounded Warriors Project.

Los Alamos High School alumni Cory Geyer enjoys a challenge and is finding one, as he attends the US Coast Guard Academy. He said he is thrilled to see his Toppers carry on the tradition of the Wounded Warrior fundraiser.

School Board Discusses Superintendent’s Evaluation Tuesday

The Los Alamos School Board will hold a Regular School Board Meeting and Executive Session at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct., 14 at the Los Alamos Public Schools Administration Building.

Breaking News: Los Alamos Middle School Gas Leak Contained – Students Are Safe

BREAKING News:

A gas leak at Los Alamos Middle School today has been contained and all students and staff are safe.

Los Alamos County Deputy Fire Chief Justin Grider just told the Los Alamos Daily Post that the students were sheltered in place after the leak was discovered and LAFD and Department of Public Utilities crews are at the scene.

Mountain Elementary School’s Annual Halloween Carnival has a new day and time, 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17.

In my first several months on the (Los Alamos) School Board, I was asked to approve a $250,000 transfer of funds to cover a shortfall in the Transportation Department. WHAT?!?!? What’s going on with that? Subsequently I spent a considerable amount of time interacting  with then Transportation Director Keith Rosenbaum and CFO John Wolfe to understand why we had to pull money out of our precious lease funds to prop up what I thought should be a fundamental operation to our School District.

Students Getting Pinkies Painted Purple To Eradicate Polio

Members of the Rotary Club of Los Alamos will visit local schools Oct. 24 to raise money for polio eradication.  

In 1985, Rotary International began raising funds in an effort to eliminate Polio worldwide. Polio has not been a problem in the United States for many years, but this is not the case in many developing countries. Los Alamos High School graduates from 1945-1955 gathered at Fuller Lodge Friday to get reaquainted and share memories. Dee Rightley (class of 1950) was one of the organizers. There were about 40 graduates in her class and it boasted the largest turnout at the reunion.
