Daily Postcard: Plateau Fence Lizard Basks In Sunshine

Daily Postcard: A plateau fence lizard, also known as a Pajarito fence lizard, basks in the sun recently from the canyon side of the ‘balcony’ at the Pajarito Environmental Education Center’s (PEEC), Los Alamos Nature Center on Canyon Road. According to PEEC, these lizards live in Northern New Mexico and are especially fond of pine trees. They are not venomous or poisonous. They are active during the day, forage twice daily, and hibernate from November to April. The characteristic blue throat patch is visible on this male, but the blue on its belly is hidden.
