The second biennial exhibit, Los Alamos County Employee Art Showcase, comes to a close next week Thursday, Jan. 7. Current and retired County employees share their artistic talent with the community and have been rewarded with high attendance and great comments from viewers.

Unveiling And Reception For New Mural Commemorating The Centennial Of Route 66 Jan. 4 At New Mexico History Museum

A mural commemorating the Route 66 Centennial by New Mexico artist Molly Mendenhall will be unveiled Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026, at an opening reception in the lobby of the New Mexico History Museum (NMHM).

The artist will attend the event and talk about the mural painting process and her design. Visitors can take photos of the vibrant mural, “Mother Road Coming into Color,” which illustrates a transition from a sepia-washed and stippled (small dotted) 1930’s scene to a modern vision of Albuquerque coming into color in the distance.

New Mexico’s vibrant arts scene will be showcased by the New Mexico Arts Commission and the New Mexico Arts Division, who are seeking nominations for the 2026 Governor’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts. Nominations are open Jan. 5 through Feb. 23, 2026.
