SANTA FE – The New Mexico Supreme Court affirmed today the convictions of Steven Lee Lucero for a 2014 killing in Roswell.

In a unanimous decision, the Court found there was sufficient evidence to support a jury’s verdict convicting Lucero of felony murder and conspiracy to commit felony murder. The victim, Isaiah Sanchez, was beaten and fatally stabbed after being lured to a house in Roswell as part of a plan by Lucero to steal Sanchez’s truck. Man And Woman Arrested At Local Car Wash

LAPD News:

Ricky Martinez, 21, of Truchas and Angelica Pacheco, 28, of Espanola are slated for pre-trial hearings April 11 in Los Alamos Magistrate Court on charges of concealing their identities and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The two were arrested Feb. 12 after Los Alamos Police Cpl. Sheldon Simpson and Cpl. Leandro Gallegos responded to the report of a suspicious vehicle at the car wash on Knecht Street. Court documents indicate the officers found Martinez and Pacheco asleep with food on their laps in a vehicle with an expired registration plate.

Traffic Stop Nets Charges For Abiquiu Man

LAPD News:

Jeremy Lovato, 23, of Abiquiu was charged with possession of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence, driving while license suspended, improper display of registration plate, no insurance and improper display of registration plate following a Feb. 12 traffic stop by Los Alamos Police Cpl. Gabriel Nieto.

Preliminary Hearing Set In 2016 Fraud Case

A preliminary hearing has been set for Feb. 23 in Los Alamos Magistrate Court for Belamie L. Pick, 40, of Medanales on charges of forgery, fraud and identity theft.

The charges were originally filed in September 2016 and in September 2017 Pick allegedly failed to appear for a preliminary hearing and a warrant was issued for her arrest. On Jan. 19, she was picked up by New Mexico State Patrol.

Rep. Bill Rehm’s Statement On House Endorsement Of Statute Of Limitations Removal For 2nd Degree Murder

SANTA FE—Friday night, the House of Representatives unanimously endorsed Rep. Bill Rehm’s (R-Albuquerque) proposal to remove the statute of limitations for second-degree murder prosecutions. His measure, House Bill 33, was combined with a similar measure, House Bill 115, sponsored by Rep. Antonio “Moe” Maestas (D-Albuquerque).  

 

New Mexico is the only state in the country that applies a statute of limitations on second degree murder. The joint bipartisan effort now moves to the Senate for consideration.   Read More
