Two men involved in an Aug. 25 incident in which one of them attempted to run down a Los Alamos Police officer with a stolen pickup were back in Los Alamos Magistrate Court Friday morning facing revised charges.

Larceny Charge Against Tonya Males Dismissed

A larceny charge filed July 24 against Tonya Males of Espanola has been dismissed without prejudice by Deputy First Judicial District Attorney Kent Wahlquist in Los Alamos Magistrate Court.

Males was charged with the theft of $900 in cash from a White Rock home she was cleaning.

The homeowner claimed the money had been in an envelope in a bedroom dresser and that Males was the only person who had access to the bedroom besides herself.

Criminal Charge Dropped Against Lab Employee

The charge against a Los Alamos National Laboratory employee of criminal damage of more than $1,800 to a vehicle belonging to another Lab employee has been dismissed.

First Judicial District Deputy District Attorney Kent Walhquist filed the dismissal Thursday in Los Alamos Magistrate Court for the charge against Robert Winkel stating that restitution has been made in the case and the interests of justice are best served through dismissal of the charge.

Los Ranchos book publisher, Barbe Awalt, Senior Partner of LPD Press/Rio Grande Books (RGB), has filed a third lawsuit against the New Mexico Public Education Department and NMPED Custodian of Records, Beverly Friedman, for $9,427,800.
 
The lawsuit, filed in the Second Judicial District Court in Albuquerque, asserts that New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) and Beverly Friedman, violated the Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) in 199 “3-day” letters by putting the wrong wording on the letters and 33 letters that were completely missing.

An Albuquerque man who allegedly attempted to cash an altered check belonging to an elderly White Rock woman was bound over Friday to District Court following a preliminary hearing before Los Alamos Magistrate Court Judge Pat Casados.

Charge Against Andrea Rivera Dismissed

A charge of unlawful taking of a motor vehicle against Andrea R. Rivera of Los Alamos was dismissed without prejudice Sept. 1 in Los Alamos Magistrate Court.

Rivera was charged with the crime April 21 when she was allegedly a passenger in a vehicle being driven by another woman who did not have permission to drive it. Later the driver alleged Rivera was driving the vehicle and she didn’t know where it was.
