UNM-LA Hosts 120 Students in Summer Program

The UNM-LA campus has been abuzz with students from grades one through 12, participating in the Summer Program for Youth, which ran July 29 through Aug. 1.

The program, now in its 25^th year, provides exciting, hands-on, activity-based learning sessions focusing on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM.)

The staff and faculty of the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos (UNM-LA), invite the community to attend a Town Hall meeting 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7 at the White Rock Baptist Church sanctuary, 80 N.M. 4 in White Rock.

The Town Hall meeting will give the community an opportunity to learn more about the upcoming special election being put before the voters Sept. 17.

SANTA FE – New Mexico School for the Arts (NMSA) state charter school launches its fourth year Aug. 12 with the largest student body to date: 212 students representing 37 communities throughout New Mexico.

This year, 70 new students will attend NMSA, coming from as far north as Taos and as far south as Las Cruces. The school experienced a surge in inquires and applications this school year from students wanting to attend NMSA.

The Los Alamos Kiwanis Club presented Tanner Vaughn with a scholarship recently. Tanner will be attending Colorado State University in Fort Collins Computer and Social Science. HSCI, Cambridge, MA – Meghan Montoya, a Los Alamos, New Mexico resident, and a junior at the College of William and Mary, is one of 44 undergraduate students accepted into the 2013 Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI) Internship Program, which provides participants with a challenging summer research experience in a cutting-edge stem cell science laboratory.
